Andersen Air Force Base public affairs spokesman Tech Sergeant Mike Boquette confirms that a B-1 bomber slid off the runway at the Yigo base this afternoon at around noon, crashing into a group of emergency response vehicles. The military reports that there were no injuries and no fatalities as a result of the accident.
This is the third incident involving the crashing of a military aircraft in less than a month. A Navy Ea-6b Prowler attached to the U.S.S. Kittyhawk strike group went down about 20 miles to the north of AAFB on February 12; and then just 11 days later the crash of a billion-dollar B-2 Spirit stealth bomber shortly after takeoff at AAFB made global headlines.
And this isn't the first time the B-1 has made local headlines. In September 2005 a B-1B was heavily damaged by fire during an errant landing at Andersen AFB.
Pacific quadrilateral?
Good news actually! The word Crash, and B-1B in the same sentence is not pleasant information where I live. Those in Abilene and Rapid City will be tense until the article’s bottom line is known, no injuries no deaths.
Does crash investigation include cheking if any personnel connected with the plane have recently converted to Islam and changed their name to something like al-jihad?
Too many good pilots leaving for private sector airline jobs. If Hillary or Obama win the Presidency they will all be leaving when the military cutbacks start.
