Huckabee Prepping for 2012 Bid

Just days after officially dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Mike Huckabee is already making plans for a possible run for the White House in 2012.

“We want to stay in touch and start now building a platform to continue addressing issues that brought us together in the first place,” Huckabee said in an e-mail to supporters on Wednesday.

“We will keep our Web site up and as we transition, will want to create a way to keep in touch and continue the battle for our families, our freedom, and our future.”

Huckabee intends to use as a model Ronald Reagan’s efforts following his failed run in 1976 and leading up to his success in 1980, the Washington Post reports.

He plans to help GOP nominee John McCain and Republican congressional candidates gain support among conservative Christians for the November elections, “while looking for a national radio show or other forum that he can use to expand his influence within the party,” according to the Post.

So forty million of his own and then 30 or so million that Hillary plan health care Mitt raised. Crazy money to do nothing but blow the race for the conservatives and get McCain nominated. We’ll have 4 years before the next round or primaries, maybe 8 if McCain wins and has a successful presidency. Plenty of time for this stuff that you think is out there regarding Huckabee (that didn’t come out in a Presidential campaign where Romney and Thompson campaigns were looking for dirt on Huckabee . . . yah . . . I’m saying you are blowing hot air). My view is that all those millions just painted Huckabee in a bad light and an undeservedly bad light. Romney was a spoiler in this race . . . with only money in his corner . . .

He might try running for the senate seat in Arkansas first. Then, if he can show us a conservative record rather than just spout pleasing platitudes, I might be willing to give him a second look.

As it is, he looks like an egotistical asshat and a Judas Goat whose major role this year was to eliminate better candidates to ensure McCain got the nomination.

He also finished 1.4 million votes behind the second place candidate with with a whole extra month as the only McCain alternative!

Why doesn’t he just go away? He wore out his welcome a long time ago.

2012? When the Democrats could cream us between now and then?!? Foolish and unnecessary!

He should either run for US Senate where he can do some good or drop out of politics.

Well, I be around in 2012 to post the obligatory Elmer Gantry pic.

I looked forward to seeing that pic on every Huckabilly thread!
He'll probably be back to 350 lbs by then, and needing some more money.

Medved said he was the most talented debater in the history of televised presidential debates.

Man, what a wacky koolaid drinker. Huckster was a shill on too many issues in the debates. Too much in the populist big-govt direction. Too Clintonesque. The best debater by far from the focus group results was Romney. He would have been a good nominee.

People who bash money people are not good Republicans nor conservatives.
Its rather disgusting populist garbage frankly to bash someone over having money.
The mindset leads to socialist nonsense.

BINGO. You nailed it. We need proven conservatives and proven leaders.

I guess this means he intends to do all he can to be sure McCain is defeated in the General come Nov. Didn’t make some comments in his concession speech about bring the party together?

This guy needs to lay low for the next few months if he’s not going to help defeat the democratic candidate.

2012 is almost too far off to think about...I wonder what Czar Nicholas was projecting for 4 years after the Russian Revolution.

Romney spent 60 or 70 or more million dollars (anyone know the final figures?). I bet he outspent the Republican field combined. Huckabee did all this by being an attractive candidate. You are making a mistake if you underestimate him.

Good point........ Just shows you can’t win with or without money if you don’t have the appeal and correct message to the voters..........

The problem isn’t that Romney had money, the problem was that he was a left wing guy who had money, and it bought him too much prominence. A guy that implemented compulsory, universal healthcare in his state should never have got any traction in the Republican primary. He did, because of his money only . . . and the net effect was to kill off the other candidates that may have had a real chance against McCain in a long campaign.

The difference is, Ronald Reagan was a conservative.

I’d rather see Mitt work up to another run, or one of our wounded warriors, Allen or Sanctorum buff up and come back swinging. The problem is, we let the rats take out our candidates, not that they didn’t let it be done to them.

FWIW, googling Santorum still brings up something nasty.

If he runs again I hope he runs under the proper party - the Demoncrats.

You mean the Christian Democratic Party ....

That is what Hucklebee stands for ... Christian only identity politics.

Aint it amazing? Romney dropped out over a month ago, and yet Hucklebee is STILL getting trounced by Romney in the popular votes category(check Wikepedia, RealClearPolitics.com, or CNN.com)

Romney as of two days ago had 4.2 million votes to 2.7 million for Hucklebee.

And Romney is still ahead in delegates among all media outlets (except the AP) by about 272 to 265.

Hucklebee is so full of himself. He got into the race for one reason and one reason only.

To stop Romney by splitting the conservative evangelical vote.

I predicted on FR five weeks ago that Hucklebee would stay in the race until he had more delegates than Romney, so he could "claim" that his Christian denomination is more popular than Romney's Christian denomination.

Romney was a spoiler in this race ..

Funny how this "spoiler" Romney still trounced Hucklebee in popular votes (and even won in delegates) despite dropping out of the race over a month ago.
