The point is that there was no reason to take the hawks life. The point is that God gave mankind dominion over the creatures of the Earth, absolute sovereignty, each and every man, and if a man trespass his responsibility, it is God who will judge. The tiniest part of the welfare on any one man is worth an uncountable number of birds.
You may not like but, it is not your or society's call to make.

Don't try to cloak yourself in religion. Where in the Bible does God tell man to wantonly slaughter animals without good reason? If you want to let God do the judging then why should we try murderers? I am sure you do not know the answer so let me tell you. In a civil society there are rules that people are asked to live by. Those who refuse to follow the rules have to be dealt with for the protection of society. There is not always time to wait for God's judgment. If you think that killing an animal is not a crime then I suppose you would be willing to just let it slide if a person killed your pet for fun.
No big deal right?
Some of us enjoy wildlife, and take great pleasure in watching God's creatures. Killing animals for no purpose is not the proper way in which man is to exhibit dominion over the animals. Yes, human life is more valuable than that of a bird, but it doesn’t mean that man is free to kill and torment the lesser living creatures.
