"The message from the U.S. to the people of Iran is that America respects you and your great country. We want Iran to be a full partner in the international community. And as President Bush has said, if Iran respects its international obligations, it will have no better friend than the United States of America."
I don't respect the radical Islamist theocracy in Iran. And even if they were to live up to their "international obligations" around their nuke program (which will never happen), I can't get past their sponsorship of Hezbollah, Al Qaeda (YES, Al Qaeda), HAMAS and insurgents in Iran and Afghanistan. Iran wages war on the West and the US in particular...and we sit back and let them for the most part...have for decades...
I thought the NIE determined that they’d abandoned their quest for the nuclear bomb?
You’re setting your sites too low. When Pres. Bush said, “ if Iran respects its international obligations...” he was referring to ALL obligations, including anti-terrorism, and human rights.
In order for Iran to comply with ALL of those, it would be the end of this regime, hence allowing Iran the opportunity to have “ have no better friend than the United States of America” as it did before Jimmy Carter.
