EMORY - If 16-year-old Erin Caffey wanted to be free of her family, she seems to have received her wish.
In the small hours of Saturday morning, her boyfriend, Charlie James Wilkinson, 19, and his friend, Charles Allen Waid, 20, allegedly found Erin's parents sleeping in their bed and shot her mother, 38-year-old Penny Caffey to death and maimed her father, Terry Caffey, 41, who had forbidden Erin to date Wilkinson the night before, according to a sheriff's office report of interviews with the two young men released Monday.

If you want to give them the third degree, there's an easier and less messy way. Flex-tie their hands, dig a common six-foot grave, drop them in and fill the grave. They would end up in the ground anyway. This just skips the intervening steps.
How many people in America have been an accomplice in the murders of 11 people, were convicted and have spent over 30 years on the outside?
I read The “Dreamin Demon” blog!
I suspect that part of what we're seeing is:
a. Two guys who are weapons-grade stupid, and also drunk and drugged; and
b. One girl (Bobbi Johnson) who was also weapons-grade stupid, and "in love"; and
c. One girl (Erin Caffey) who was "in love" and who was stricly controlled by her boyfriend.
She was a minor when the people were killed and never pulled a trigger, right? Starkweather himself didn’t live so long.
This Wilkinson guy is 19 and still in high school? Paper said he and the 16-year-old daughter would sneak off at school and that she had been home-schooled until recently.
Sounds like she went from being sheltered like a lamb right into the arms of wolves.
I guess she chose her gods. She didn’t choose wisely.
After reading the book I had trouble sleeping for weeks. Evil has existed since Cain and Abel.
I think you are right on target. Erin Caffey was likely strictly controlled to the point of abuse by her “lover”. Parents likely saw how he treated her. Sick nonetheless.
Public hanging is an excellent deterrent. It should be used more liberally.
She was a minor, but Starkweather - who fully admitted to killing at least 8 of their 11 victims accused her of killing three.
Ultimately, his statements are more believable since the account he gave guaranteed him the electric chair, while Fugate was highly motivated to pin everything on him and portray ehrself as a hostage.
She definitely lied at her trial when she claimed that she thought her family was still alive up to the time she was caught, even though she and Starkweather had lived in the tiny house where her parents' and sister's bodies were for six days.
She was supposed to serve life, but in the 70s hippy-dippy jurisprudence prevailed.
After the murders, the girl and her boyfriend had SEX and SLEPT...
Well I can’t comment on those days because I wasn’t around then ;-), but I think the “anything goes” culture of today feeds the already disturbed.
Dang! Some guys will do ANYTHING for sex, even with something that looks like that! None of them look like the brightest bulbs in the boxes either.
The modern teenage girls mantra...”You don’t know me, you don’t know how I feel, I can love a man who loves me!”...sadly, I’ve heard this from my own daughter, who married someone I didn’t approve of..........at 21 though.
Prayers for the family......
Ah the Karla (Karla Faye Tucker/Karla Homolka) Defense.
No sale.
Wait'll after March Madness. Get a better crowd.
I saw here blog. She was obsessed with her creepy boyfriend.
The horror the two boys must have felt especially the 8 year old. I have an 8 year old, I would take great joy in torturing these two before I slow bled them, God help me.
A quick death is too good for these minions. This is one case I would be willing to be the executioner.
They need to go to prison and be gang raped for several years for being child killers, then given the needle.
In Texas you can petition for emancipation if you are at least 16 if you are living away from your parents, 17 if you still live with them.
She could of just run away. Must be more to the story.
Yes, In Cold Blood. A masterpiece, IMHO.
I've also heard that this event marked, for all practical purposes, the end of innocense in rural America (IE: people routinely leaving doors unlocked, etc).
