Obama appeals to the American Serbs

In a response to the inquest on issues by the Serbian Unity Congress (SUC), Presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama says that as President he will work to assure Kosovo Serbs are protected, that he will support Bosnian Dayton Accords and the integration of Serbia into EU and Euro-Atlantic structures.

"I also noted in my statement that Serbia and its people have suffered terribly over that past two decades and that Serbs deserve a more peaceful, prosperous, and hopeful future," says Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama is a Senator from Illinois whose father is from Kenya.

Obama said that, as President, he will encourage talks and dialogue between sides in Kosovo in order to facilitate peaceful resolution to the "remaining disputes".

"As part of that responsibility," Sen. Obama says that "I believe that peace and stability there can only truly be ensured by solutions that are acceptable to all sides."

On the SUC inquest about the Bosnia as to whether Sen. Obama would "protect the Dayton Accord guarantees for self-rule granted to the two autonomous entities of Bosnia?" the Senator said that he will continue the US support for the Dayton Accords as basis for peace in Bosnia and "in particular for their provisions relating to the rights and responsibilities of the two entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina."

"Similarly," says Senator Obama "I would continue support for the Erdut Agreement guarantees and will make clear that I expect all parties to that agreement, including Croatia, to honor their commitments."

The Erdut Agreement was signed by a Croatian and Serbian representative in November 1995 after Croatian troops expelled quarter of the million Serbs from Croatia. The agreement stipulates that conditions for return of "refugees and displaced persons to their homes of origin" and restitution of property must be created.

Ultimately, what I think is that the choices for Serb Americans this election are the same as the choices for all Americans: pick whichever flavor of hemlock you choose- french vanilla, vanilla or chocolate, because all the candidates are likely equally poisonous for America. Because they are all in the employ of global industrialists, not in the service of the American people.

As you've seen on this and other Serbian related threads we have an awful lot of "white Christian gentlemen and ladies" who do not deal with the Serbs as if they are "white" or "Christian".

Actually in a sense you are correct the Serbs are pretty insignificant as a political force in in this country when you look at sheer numbers and yes That is a big part of the problem. However, when you consider these numbers and I saw this on Reagan.com a while back when you consider the Orthodox Church you certainly will see a Greek Church a Russian Church a Romanian Church an Ethiopian Church take into consideration that for the most part that all of these Churches have split for one reason or another so the numbers are not really jumping out at you as huge but when you put them all together in this country it becomes the third or fourth largest Christian Church in the country and second largest worldwide. What you must remember is that they are all the same Church that is where I believe Obama is coming from and by the way guys like me look at President Reagan and the look at St. Constantine and when you consider what both of these men did for Christianity had President Reagan been Orthodox he would possibly have been a Saint.

Obama is a former Muslim if there is such a thing. He will not offer much to the Serbs except words. He cannot offer much, because the US is committed to the UN Kosovo effort, thanks to Bill Clinton.

I am not holding him to a higher standard. I’m just warning people not to expect anything different from him. He won’t be any better as far as Serbia is concerned, possibly a lot worse. After all Bill Clinton started the bombing. The current administration’s policy toward Serbia is another in a long line of disappointments for me.
