(WCCO) The driver of the van and the owner of the van involved in the fatal Cottonwood bus crash were each charged with four additional federal charges Friday.
Prosecutors charged Olga Martina Franco del Cid, 24, the driver of the van, with two counts of aggravated identity theft and two counts of false representation of a Social Security number. Authorities have said she is in the country illegally.
Francisco Sangabriel-Mendoza, 29, was the registered owner of the van involved in the crash and was also charged with two counts of aggravated identity theft and two counts of false representation of a Social Security number.
Franco del Cid was charged last week in Lyon County in connection with a crash involving a school bus in Cottonwood, Minn. where four children died. After the crash, Franco del Cid told authorities she was Alianiss Nunez Morales.
After the bus crash, authorities tried to verify Franco del Cid's identity, under the Morales name she gave authorities. That investigation led them to the real Alianiss Nunez Morales, who is in Connecticut. She told authorities her purse and identification documents had been stolen more than six months ago while she was living in Puerto Rico.
Two of Morales' relatives, when shown pictures of Franco del Cid said that was not their relative.
Authorities also believe Franco del Cid filled out I-9 forms claiming she was a U.S. citizen at two Minnesota companies where she was employed under Morales' name.
During a search of Franco del Cid's home on Feb. 22, authorities found her Guatemalan birth certificate and identification cards. Authorities said they also found numerous wire transactions between Franco del Cid and her mother in Guatemala.
Authorities said Sangabriel-Mendoza used a Social Security number that wasn't his to get a job. He is not in custody and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Authorities said Sangabriel-Mendoza is from Mexico and is also in the country illegally.
Franco del Cid and Sangabriel-Mendoza lived together in Minneota, Minn.
If convicted, Franco del Cid and Sangabriel-Mendoza could each face up to 14 years in prison.

The same charges were also filed against 29-year-old Francisco Sangabriel-Mendoza, also of Minneota. He was the registered owner of the van. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Franco was charged earlier in state court with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

If this woman had not had this wreck and killed these kids, she would not be facing ID theft charges. For years illegals have commonly been caught and never charged with ID theft.
Most of the illegal use fake or stolen ID’s. The reason they do is because there is typically no consequence.

The harsh reality is that until we undertake a huge biometrically based national ID system, both US citizen and illegal alien criminals will continue to get away with a huge amount of crime (and I include illegal border-crossing in the category of “crime”). There is currently no way to determine quickly and efficiently (or in some cases, ever) who somebody really is, and that gives criminals a tremendous advantage.
Every word of that also applies to a lot of US citizens.

Geraldo Rivera was on CNN about half an hour ago. He all but accused Bill O`Reilly of deliberately trying to gin up hatred of Latino`s by talking about incidents like these on his (O`Reillys) program. Should be interesting to see what O`Reilly`s response will be tonight.

Both illegals have been charged with two counts of identity theft. This is not an anomaly.
There is no way to keep track of these people or who they are. The only way to get our country back on track is by deportation and strong border control.

We just had a female illegal who killed a guy as she was fleeing from an accident while drunk. She drove for miles with the guy on her hood until he finally fell off and died. She will finally be deported after an eight year prison term. It’s too bad for the dead guy that he had to die before the government did its job.
ID theft is insidious. and in the case of illegls, it is poorly enforced. And yes, not much is done about US citezen thieves either.

I am sure O’Reilly will take heat regarding the “No Amnesty” position. Illegal is illegal. For those of you regarding fake ID’s by American and Legal Immigrants, IF YOU KNOW OF A CASE, REPORT IT! There are laws and ID theft is a Felony. I am well aware of the crimes of ID theft by legal individuals in the U.S.
If I have anything to say about it, I will not ALLOW ILLEGAL ALIENS OR FOREIGN COUNTRIES DICTATE THE POLICIES OF THE US. I would die fighting for the right to keep our sovereignty and enforce our laws if need be. Right now there’s no “war” on the “frontera” but believe you me, I’ll send my youngest to go live with one of their older siblings and fight it does come down to that.
I am tired of Businesses exploiting illegal aliens and Americans and Legal Immigrants being discriminated against and the loss of value to American households due to their practices along side illegal aliens.
I am sorry to see that this has resulted. I’m going to forward that link to several of my friends who also want to enforce our laws.
