Like the Summer Olympics, the soccer World Cup and the presidential election, Friday's date - Feb. 29 - occurs just once every four years.

And for at least one unsuspecting guy living in New York City, it's going to be a helluva day to remember.

His girlfriend - let's call her Miss X - is taking advantage of an ancient leap year custom by bucking tradition and asking him to marry her.

Actually, on the Roman calendar (which is where our calendar comes from) the leap day came between 2/22 and 2/23. After this day the usual days resumed, meaning that even in a leap year feb. ended on the 28th. This is still reflected in the Catholic liturgical calendar (the old one, at least), which moved all saints' feasts days back a day beginning with the 24th, which is technically the 23rd.

And don't forget, today's only the 16th according to the Julian Calendar!

I have 2 ex’s already. I’d be scared to go outside my house, answer my phone or look at email. The first 2 were my mistake. Don’t need a third just because of some dumb law.

Of course that probably means we can expect congress to enact it any day.
