Part of the same operation, probably. I think those oft-reported "triangles" are ours. This is very much like the years prior to the unveiling of the Stealth.

Agreed. If there was one proven instance of military activity surrounding the incident that night, its a reasonable assumption that the second incident was more of the same.

I think that is the most likely explanation.
