PRINCE HARRY FIGHTS ON FRONTLINES IN AFGHANISTAN; 3 MONTH TOUR Thu Feb 28 2008 11:01:34 ET

**World Exclusive**

They're calling him "Harry the Hero!"

British Royal Prince Harry has been fighting in Afghanistan since late December -- and has been directly involved in gun battle, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The prince, a junior officer in the Blues and Royals, and third in line to the throne, has been a "magnificent soldier" and an "inspiration to all of Briton."

So some prince is more valuable than an “ordinary” soldier?

Guess you don't know much about HVT's...

Prayers up for Prince Harry, one of Princess Diana’s fine sons, indeed. What a corker! Red hair, red in the face when he’s gets mad but true blue in his courage and loyalty. God bless ‘em!

Amen - the 'boys' are their mother's sons, for sure.

It’s not just Ratt Sludge, it’s the people who frequent his tabloid buffet to gorge on tidbits like this.

If there were no demand, Sludge would be just another half baked hack scraping together coins to buy a latte in Charbucks.

He’s nothing but a sideshow barker fronting for a circus geek show, that’s all.

It’s selfish and reckless for him to have gone and put other servicemen and women at risk. I understand he wanted to go, but even though you’re a Prince, you can’t get EVERYTHING you want.

Good for Harry! He and all Allied servicemen and women in the WOT have my absolute respect and admiration.

‘Cry God for Harry, England and St George!’

Drudge didn't "scoop" - he ratted

Ok, he "broke" the story then. Sort of like what Matt Drudge is most famous for; when the Washington Post was sitting on the Monica Lewinsky story, and Drudge "broke" or "scooped" the rest of the media. The British media was apparently loyal to the Crown on this one. Drudge isn't (nor do I think he should be).

Yeah.. he should have ignored family tradition and not serve in anyway.. and just stay home and get pissed in clubs...

*roll eyes*

Prince Phillip and Andrew did active service. Prince charles served in the navy with distinction. Unfortunately we live in times where the world is smaller because of more effective means of communcation.. the media has become so multifaceted - print, internet.. etc - and not all journalists put principle above printing the big scoop - even if it costs lives. The fault doesn’t lie with the prince, our world is changing and I do admire the courage it took to go there and feel a sense of accomplishment after years of training for ..guess what... fighting in a bloody war.... So what’s the problem?

If you don’t KNOW what the problem is..than I guess there’s nothing I can say. Yes, it’s noble and shows his character, and I applaud him for that. But it’s misguided to put such a high profile target in the middle of a battle zone. It’s just not good for anyone.

Prince Harry goes to War; Drudge leaks; Brits upset ( An Understatement!!)

It turns out that Britain's third in line to the throne, Prince Harry, has been fighting in Afghanistan for the past three months.

The British news media agreed not to publish the story because they didn't want to tip the Taliban to the presence of such a high-value target. However, Matt Drudge, tabloid hero of The Right in this country, blew Harry's cover and now the story is all over the news.

The British Govt. is angry that this happened, and judging by comments posted on the story British public opinion is outraged at Drudge as well. Did Drudge step over the line here? Or is Harry fair game for his expose'?

...in-Afghanistan

Source

For ten weeks they kept the secret of Widow Six Seven American pilots, Afghan soldiers and Taleban fighters - all of them were unaware that the third in line to the throne was in their midst --Source

British officials had hoped to keep the 23-year-old's deployment secret until he had safely returned, but they released video of Harry serving in Helmand Province after a leak appeared on the U.S. Web site the Drudge Report. The planned deployment had been disclosed to reporters, with no specific date, but was not reported previously under a pool agreement between the Ministry of Defense and all major news organizations operating in Britain, including The Associated Press. The news blackout was intended to reduce the risk to the prince and his regiment.

Although he is still in Afghanistan, military chiefs are angry over the leak and are considering if he should be moved. Tours to Afghanistan usually last six months, but Harry has served just 10 weeks.

"I will take advice from the operational commanders about whether his deployment can continue," said the army's commander, Gen. Richard Dannatt

Harry's deployment may not continue as element of risk has been raised to the lives of those serving around him. Drudge might just as well have HELPED paint a bullseye on the kid's back!

Liberals are blaming the Right and bringing up the Bush twins serving in the war rhetoric.

AUSTRALIAN magazine New Idea is at the centre of a storm over the media's breaking of a news blackout on Prince Harry's deployment in Afghanistan.

The magazine was named by the US-based Drudge Report website as one of two media outlets that had broken a secret deal between the young royal and the press.

As part of the deal a group of journalists visited the prince in Helmand on condition that details would only be publicized once he was safely back in Britain.

But a headline still available on New Idea's website and dated February 14 reads: "Prince Harry Goes To War in Afghanistan".

It is not possible to access the full story.

Another article, with a January publication date, is headed: "Prince Harry: War Lord".

However, it was a short piece posted on the US-based Drudge Report website that forced the British Ministry of Defence to drop the cloak of secrecy today.

The website, which has made its name breaking controversial stories, ran a story - billed as a "World Exclusive'' - which read: "They're calling him 'Harry the Hero'!''

New Idea today denied knowingly breaking the embargo.

"New Idea was not issued with a press embargo and was unaware of the existence of one," the magazine said.

"The story was published on Monday, January 7. Since then New Idea has received no comment from the British Ministry of Defence.

"We take these matters very seriously and would never knowingly break an embargo. We regret any issues the revelation of this story in America(AMERICANS ON THE RIGHT ) has caused today.

British Army chief General Sir Richard Dannatt said he was furious the strictly enforced embargo had been broken.

"I am very disappointed that foreign websites have decided to run this story without consulting us," he said.

"This is in stark contrast to the highly responsible attitude that the whole of the UK print and broadcast media, along with a small number of overseas, who have entered into an understanding with us over the coverage of Prince Harry on operations.

"After a lengthy period of discussion between the MOD and the editors of regional, national and international media, the editors took the commendable attitude to restrain their coverage.

I don’t even know what an HVT is. If it’s something that makes some inbred “royal” better than anybody else, I don’t want to know, either.

Hildy: it’s misguided to put such a high profile target in the middle of a battle zone

No one would have known where Harry was, if not for..Drudge rushing to release and using another Aussie news source (New Idea) as his scapegoat. even though they are angry over their name being used and deny any involvement.

The Brits and others around the world are blaming THE AMERICANS AND, OF COURSE, THE RIGHT IS EMPHASIZED!!!

The secret had been kept for 10 week...the time frame of service was to be 6 months for this tour of duty. There had been established a what might be called a Moral agreement by press not to disclose this sensitive information if in hand....but as you can see......Drudge, who has recently been disclosing his personal financials (maybe that was a bad thing to disclose..ha! ), found the need to leak.

I will disclose I am not a fan of Matt Drudge, as he has been under skepticism for tawdry breaking news that often amount to a dangle of the worm, in hopes of catching a story. When he does not, he reels back in again with no followup. If one does their own research, they will way too often find he is void of facts. Even if he came out smelling like a English Plum rose on this Bullseye Piece of Harry-worldwide news story, I have never and will continue not to trust him for accuracy.

Not berating you, Hildy; just my own opinion.

All the press who are talking about this should be held responsible if something happens to Prince Harry and his unit.

I heard today it was the foreign press that first leaked it. Also Prince Harry said he would drop out of the military if he could not go and fight. He said what is the use of all this training if I cannot go and serve.

Matt Drudge was right to expose the story.

I guess restraint is not a word in your vocabulary.

Matt Drudge was totally wrong. He did a disservice to Prince Harry and to British journalists. He cheapened journalistic integrity everywhere. This cheap thrill is for the unactualized idiots with no self control.

The damage is now done. I am so sorry that it was an American who did it.

It has nothing to do with being 'being loyal to the Crown' = it's a case of protecting lives, both the Prince and his fellow soldiers - and to put ones own selfish need to 'break' a story (and it's not breaking, in this case, it's LEAKING) without consideration of other peoples very lives, is a sniveling act - to equate that with breaking the Monica Lewinsky story shows an abysmal lack of understanding the difference
