“He’s been fighting to serve in combat since he got his bars (pips?) and he’s managed to get there despite family and goverment objections.”

Nope, wrong. No family or government objections to his getting into combat. The Queen herself gave the orders to Prince Harry that he was being sent to Afghanistan. Andrew served in the Falklands. Charles commanded a minesweeper. The Queen served on the Home Front in WW2. Harry’s Grandfather and great grandfather served with distinction during WW’s 1 and 2.

How was your post not ‘Brit’ bashing. Aka Anti-Britism? A country farther down the road etc....You practice what you claim to preach against FRiend. Its easy to make a comment like that to get a few laughs from your fellow FReepers. I see it as opportunism.

Umm:

We've been reading about Harry not being allowed to go with his original team's deployment for most of the past year. This is a later, maybe abbreviated, tour done in secrecy.

The freaking ARMY didn't want him in a position that would be specifically targeted by the bad guys - endangering both he and his troops. Now that it is out he's coming home early and that's just got to p*** him off and probably his troopies as well.

Think I don't know how Harry feels? I spent over a year literally fighting my way out of SAC to gain assignment to Viet Nam, Catch 22 is a real thing to me. From there to the Army and leaving a trail of bruised toes behind.

I know JUST how he feels and my grandmother came from Wolverhampton, not Windsor.

Yes Andrew served honorably in the Falklands but not in a role that invited lunatic savages, on the ground and in his neighborhood, to target him as a ultra high priority target whose mere injury would inflict not just an embarrassing blow to the west, but to legitimate western royalty. If Andrew had been smoked it would have been a combat casualty of great moment and generalized back stiffening - not a targeted killing. (And both men deserve respect for their actions)

Yes, the queen told him he'd got orders for Afghanistan but not until they'd worked out a means to do it. I expect she was almost as satisfied that he got to go as he was - but I also expect she was sweating very non-regal vapors the whole time he was away, that's what grandmothers do.

On the silly side, I'll take pub fare over McDonald's in a nanosecond, and despite the bone chilling price difference.

So stuff your self righteous whine and accept the fact the your side is even farther along in PC devolution than ours is. We're both going the same direction.

Glad to say I'm on Prince Harry's side and not yours.
