Football legend Red Grange loved to tell the story about the time he visited Calvin Coolidge at the White House. As the tale goes, when an aide made the introductions by saying, Mr. President, this is Red Grange of the Chicago Bears, Coolidge replied, Great! I love circus acts.
True story? Political folklore? What we do know, and well know it forever, is that President Bush really did stand at a podium on the South Lawn yesterday and speak these words: Im sorry Manny Ramirez [stats] isnt here. I guess his grandmother died again.

And World Series MVP third baseman Mike Lowell, whose parents were born in Cuba, even sounded off about the recent change there:
You might have to sit around for about two hours for me to give you all my thoughts, Lowell said. In a nutshell, I think its a nice cosmetic change for now. I dont really think too much is being done until we really have the opportunity to let the people of that country be free people.
Everyone winced when he made the Manny joke....
Although let’s face it, people do a lot of writing for him.
I thought it was a great line---it showed GWB at his absolute best.
The entire presentation can be viewed on Boston Dirt Dogs. Worth the watch!
The jerk said his grandmother died in 2001.
"He (Manny) missed the All-Star workouts in Seattle in '01, claiming to some reporters that his grandmother had died, though the circumstances of her demise were suspiciously vague."
I keep forgetting I should email the wise guy columnist/TV critic of the local paper who is always bashing Bush. In his latest column he dredged up that phony “Is our children learning” quote. He needs to be told that was debunked long ago. Mr Bush in fact said the question we must ask ourselves is, “are children learning?”
It's all politics. Bush is by no means a great orator. In fact I've personally heard him butcher a few phrases while attending a political rally for him in 2000. So what. I've also personally heard Algore speak too. Talk about a lousy speaker. Forget wooden, petrified is a better analogy. Bush actually speaks better than he does.
I give you credit for having the courage to defend the speech of the most ill-spoken President in U.S. history. Bush's tongue is his biggest liability , after his pride and ego, that is. And quite frankly, If Jorge Bush ran the country as well as Manny Ramirez played baseball the Republican Party would be a lot better off today.
The president doesn’t run the country, the citizens are supposed to. Problem is way too many folks sitting on their butts waiting for the president or somebody to solve their problems.

It’s probably a good thing for you that you weren’t around to make those sorts of comments about Moses.
Especially when he says things like, "There ought to be limits to freedom."
I thought we elected our leaders to run the government for us so we could do those insignificant little things like obtain an education, get married, raise children, work for a living and pay taxes so our elected leaders can do our bidding with our money.
Sort of like when someone gets zinged really good and you laugh but with a bit of a pained look because you are acknowledging the punchiness of it.
I thought ... WOW! ... seven years and Bush finally found a good line.
Was this comment in response to the NY Slimes damaging national security? If that was the case then there ought to be limits.

So, does this mean I'm 6 weeks old?
No. It was uttered during the 2000 campaign after failing to silence one of his critics after trying to get the FEC to label the owner of a parody website as a PAC.
