I thought this was disposed of back in 1964, when Barry Goldwater ran. Goldwater was born abroad to American citizen parents.
No, he was born in the territory of Arizona. At that point Arizona was incorporated even though it wasn't a state, so there is no doubt Goldwater was born in the US. But born in the US or not is not an issue, it's irrelevant. See my previous post.
my mistake, he was born in the Arizona territory before it became a state - but the issue was raised during the campaign, and would be analogous to being born in the Canal Zone.
