I think McCain will be fondly remembered. He’s the kind of Republican many historians and media types really like. He gets along with Dems and is uncomfortable around any strong conservatives— especially if they are “fire-brand” conservatives. He’s very comfortable in accepting a minority role for Republicans in Congress. He represents the pre-Newt Gingrich Republicans. In other words, he’s the way Republicans should be, according to the “intellectual elite”. Yep, he may be fondly remembered—especially if he loses in November and takes a lot of Republicans down with him.
Sadly there are way too many like him in Congress. Compromising with Democrats on issues, letting the Dems have their way, backing down on important issues. This is what brought us to where we are today. It's no wonder Conservatives have such a sick feeling in the pit of their stomachs when they contemplate having to vote for this guy. If anybody thinks McCain isn't going to continue compromising with the Dems from the White House, you're kidding yourself.
