Temperature Monitors Report Global Cooling
The Daily Tech, Drudgereport ^

A twelve-month long drop in world temperatures erases global warming

Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on. No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

Meteorologist Anthony Watts compiled the results of all the sources. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year time. For all sources, it's the single fastest temperature change every recorded, either up or down.

Scientists quoted in a past DailyTech article link the cooling to reduced solar activity which they claim is a much larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases. The dramatic cooling seen in just 12 months time seems to bear that out. While the data doesn't itself disprove that carbon dioxide is acting to warm the planet, it does demonstrate clearly that more powerful factors are now cooling it.

Let's hope those factors stop fast. Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans -- and most of the crops and animals we depend on -- prefer a temperature closer to 70.

Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news.

Maybe they just forgot to mention that an ice age always presages a warming trend.

Yeah...the Global Climate Changes with every season. Man the lifeboats, save the seeds, and blame the current crop of humans for what has been happening for 1000s of years.

Just last night I was watching cspan( yes I know I have no life), and the Governors Conference was on and this guy was talking about plans for carbon caps. Listening to the boobs we have for governors, it was scary. We are doomed and the taxpayers have no idea they are planing our doom, on purpose, in advance. They want to capture CO2 and inject it underground, for centuries! What if the earth farts? We all die.

And we pay more for this gasping death.

It is called “CO2 Sequestration” and is the latest rage among the carbonocrats. Maybe they should call it CO2 Castration?

Reminds one of the classic Twilight Zone episode Midnight Sun.

"The word that Mrs. Bronson is unable to put into the hot, still, sodden air is 'doomed,' because the people you've just seen have been handed a death sentence. One month ago, the Earth suddenly changed its elliptical orbit and in doing so began to follow a path which gradually, moment by moment, day by day, took it closer to the sun. And all of man's little devices to stir up the air are now no longer luxuries - they happen to be pitiful and panicky keys to survival. The time is five minutes to twelve, midnight. There is no more darkness. The place is New York City and this is the eve of the end, because even at midnight it's high noon, the hottest day in history, and you're about to spend it in the Twilight Zone."

I assume that most on this board know the payoff to the episode.

I missed that one. My parents wouldn't let me stay up that late and the Man had already said, “It is 10 o’clock - do you know where your children are?”

(wonder who they’ll blame when the sun goes red dwarf)

We better start working on a solution. I think we only have 5 billion years left.

But the key question is, man caused the warming, right? Then exactly how did earth get the cooling, and why can’t man just repeat it anytime he wants? Such is the power of man, you want warm, no problem, you want cool, no problem. Cool concept isn’t it.

... And the stupidity of ignoring the sun. Who would have known the sun might effect earth’s weather.

Should the weather merely rebound to the average of the prior several years, then all of the press in unison with their co-Stalinists will be screaming about the greatest single-year increase in global temperature ever recorded.

It need not be called the Dalton Minimum.

I’ve been agitating for the Gore-Hansen Minimum so that it will be a memorial for people to remember that the illiberals will shell junk science to advance their goals.

Thanks for another great ping.

Is it just me or are “glowball cooling” articles becoming more common?
