Prescribing anti-depressants to the vast majority of patients is futile, as the drugs have little or no impact at all, according to researchers. Almost 50 clinical trials were reviewed by psychologists from the University of Hull who found that new-generation anti-depressants worked no better than a placebo a dummy pill for mildly depressed patients. Even the trials that suggested some clinical benefit for the most severely depressed patients did not produce convincing evidence. Professor Irving Kirsch from the universitys pyschology department said: The difference in improvement between patients taking placebos and patients taking anti-depressants is not very great.

That’s depressing. In fact, I’m depressed that I’m depressed. Now I’m really depressed.
The problem in general is not so much whether these medications will or will not work, but was the individual correctly diagnosed in the first place. An example is the number of children who are incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD each year, and placed on medications they should not be taking. The same problem exists with other disorders like depression and anxiety. The diagnosis is easy to give out.
I am absolutely disgusted with the overly-done prescriptions of Ridalyn. You can’t drug kids for being “active”! And I agree, the prescriptions for antidepressants are given out like freakin’ beads at a Mardi Gras Parade! They’re nothing to mess with...:-)
