Looking only at FedGov overlooks checks and balances as built in to the Constitution. While it is possible FedGov itself might be totally socialist for an election cycle or so, the State governments are independent to a degree. Some States will not be socialist. Live in a non-socialist State until sanity returns.

2012 will be an incredible Conservative backlash year. The smart national candidate who knows that is preparing to ride this backlash right now. It may even encumber a strong Conservative challenge within the Republican Party against President John McCain. The question is, will there be enough of us? Will millions of illegals [who will tend to be overwhelmingly Democratica] have been "regularalized" and citizens by that time and vote (they will vote regardless of being legal, as if they care about laws, themselves violating other federal laws (immigration) daily, without so much as a second thought or a fart.

We can't do anything to change the mess that is going on in our country overnight. Not quite. We can do little that will result in overnight changes, but there are small, almost imperceptable steps that can and should indeed be made. And there are larger ones that offer greater results over the long term.
We'll need both approaches, and they'll have to be applied as and as determined by those taking thoise steps- not everyone has the same talents or opportunities that others may have, but everyone can do something.
