The Bullying Pulpit
by: Malcolm A. Kline, February 25, 2008
If you think that primary schools dont spend enough time on education now, just wait. As a famous guy once said, You aint heard nothin yet!
To achieve a gender-safe school, I think we need to employ several simultaneous strategies to ensure that sexual harassment will not have a presence there, Wellesleys Nan Stein writes in Radical Teacher. I suggest that we call this zero indifference, rather than zero tolerance, which would mean that we plan to notice the behaviors, comment on them, intervene, and make corrections accordingly.
Stein is a senior research scientist at the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women who has written several curricula for schools on these issues. Radical Teacher is a socialist, feminist and anti-racist journal on the theory and practice of teaching....
Train all the staff, including the administrators, custodians, school secretaries, bus drivers, coaches, teachers, guidance counselors, playground and lunchroom supervisors, and psychologists, Stein advises. Can they learn their jobs first?...
Her evidence of harassment? Part of it comes from a 1998 World Health Organization study. The results for the U. S. showed that nearly 30 % of the sample reported moderate or frequent involvement in bullying, either as the bully (13%), one who was bullied (10.6%), or both (6.3%). Then wouldnt the both be a subset of the first and the second categories and bring the percentage to not quite 25?

Wellesley College is pretty much an intellectual joke. Friend’s daughter went there starting in her junior year. She went fairly conservative but with an over-inflated sense of herself. She came out a flaming lib and an even bigger ego. She did manage to stay straight. When we visited, she would give us ‘tours’ of the lesbian den and hangouts. She’s in the MSM now with little hope of salvation.
One of my engineer brothers felt so squeezed by import competition and H1B visa-carrying salary-undercutters that he quit the factory. Taught shop class as a long-term substitute and enjoyed helping the kids who actually wanted to be there, so he enrolled in a state school’s crash course Masters’ deal to become certified teacher. He’s having a hard time learning to never state the obvious.
Keeps hearing that those “sweet little darlings are such precious, delicate, fragile, perfect, little, future multicultured genius/leaders who will someday bring our world to true multicultured tolerance, peace, harmony, equality, and justice if only they can be properly inspired and motivated by dedicated, idealistic, tolerant, multicultured teachers like us.” He has occasionally tried to point out that too many of the kids are spoiled, disgusting, lazy brats who would benefit greatly from a vigorous, long-term behavior-modification regimen applied by both parental units and academia. It’s cost him something almost every time he’s said it.
