They were the same when the were anit-war during the Vietnam War. They STILL dont get it why most of the women left the movement.Another great point. I was there in the sixties, and well remember the ugly sexist attitudes among New Left men toward the "chicks" and "old ladies". My sister is one of those who became disaffected from "the movement". She still gets furious about it.

I walked out of an anti-war meeting in college, and so did most of the women there, when a nutcase said, “all white women should be raped by a black man.” The other guys there CHEERED. The women were horrified, and when one objected, he told her to “shut up, or I’ll throw you through the window.” They started to discuss sex, no rape, and finally it was too much for me. I objected, and they said I was “uptight” about sex. I said, “this isn’t sex. No one is getting turned on.” I asked what women were there for anyway. The freak said, “women in the movement are to be f..cked, raped, kicked, and beaten.” I walked out, and so did most of the women, accompanied by their threats, and profanities. It was one of the turning points in my life. That RIGHT THERE was the end of my anti-war involvement, and in the Democratic Party, period. Everyone was aware of, but did not talc about the Kennedys abuse of women.
