would jesus even believe in democracy? We are talking about a rabbi who lived 2000 years ago in roman-occupied judea.

It is not clear to me that the background of anyone in that time and place would lend itself to regarding representative government as a good idea. Are the meek to inherit the earth, or are they to be allowed to vote upon the matter?

“would jesus even believe in democracy?”

No, I don’t think democracy is God’s perfect plan. (It’s the best we’ve got right now, since God’s letting us make our own decisions in this imperfect, sinful world.) However, when Jesus establishes His Kingdom, there will be no democracy. He will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I look forward to a time of justice and true peace, with no pain or dying, so I’m perfectly glad with democracy being done away with at that time.

I don’t look to any politician to establish this Kingdom now, as no man can do this. Any man who looks like he’s claiming to try, I am very wary. I believe we have a responsibility to vote and make choices that protect human life as best we can, but I think it’s silly to surmise who Jesus would vote for. I don’t think the question in this article (for Christians) should be “Who would Jesus vote for”, but rather “What candidate best reflects my values and beliefs based on scriptures?”
