Background: I've covered the Clara Harris "Murder by Mercedes" case extensively, both in the Houston Chronicle, on the radio, and in this blog. As I've previously noted, Clara Harris repeatedly ran over David Harris as David's daughter sat in the front seat, begging Clara not to kill her father.
In my co-authored column Suppose roles had been reversed in Harris case--Murdered dad deserves sympathy being shown Clara (Houston Chronicle, 1/27/07), I explained:
"Harris, her attorneys and her supporters have been largely successful in concealing the true nature of Clara's crime. Whereas Clara has successfully portrayed herself as the innocent victim of a philandering husband, in reality David Harris was killed while trying to exit a bad and possibly abusive marriage. Clara's defenders also ignore the fact that considerable evidence was presented that Clara--who played the crying, betrayed wife--was also having an affair at the end of their marriage.
"While many see the Clara Harris case as one of love and betrayal, it is in fact a garden-variety domestic homicide. Clara Harris is no better than high-profile wife-killer Scott Peterson. Perhaps Clara is even worse — at least Peterson spared us the crocodile tears."

I've previously noted the way the media has disparaged David Harris despite the fact that he was by all accounts a good father and a decent man. At the time of the civil trial in January 2007, I wrote:
"Of the 354 news stories covering the wrongful death trial that are indexed on Google News, 233 refer to David Harris as Clara Harris’ 'cheating husband.' Not one mentions the phrase 'domestic violence.'"
Were the genders reversed, would we see headlines saying "Man Kills Cheating Wife"? I doubt it.
Now that Harris is back in the news (she's suing her criminal defense attorney--to learn more, see my blog post 'Murder by Mercedes' Killer Clara Harris Whining Again), we once again see the bias on domestic violence. As evidenced by the screen shot above, most news outlets' headlines are again disparaging and dehumanizing David Harris by referring to him simply as "Cheating Spouse."
Interested readers might contact these news outlets and ask them to change "Cheating Spouse" to read "Husband."
Yep. Even worse. She's a woman.
Same goes for all these older women who have pedophilic relationships with their underage students. Lots of people call the kids "lucky bastards" when the perp is female, but when the perp is a male, then these same people suddenly rediscover their moral compass.
Same story here.
I am old enough to remember how the rich cow who shacked up with the Scarsdale Diet Dr and murdered him was made a martyr. Only positive thing I can say for Mario Cuomo is that he made her serve her sentence.
Sad, sad case.
If your marriage goes belly-up, just end it. There is no need for this senseless kind of act.
I feel very sorry for the daughter.
How long until the obligatory insider shows up and claims to be personally involved or know dear Clara?

But since this psycho is female, she got an easy sentence and is getting cream-puff interviews on Oprah.
Funny how nobody is talking about the daughter's trauma from all this. Can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, I guess. These people and their skiffy website make me want to blow chunks.

Cripes that Clara love fest is a hurl vortex.
It’s an outrage. Pre-meditated. (She DID run him down more than once. Right?) Complete, callous disregard for human life and suffering. Life in prison. No parole.
The justice system should pursue cases not only to bring about justice, but to also render decisions with the ultimate effect of benefiting all Texas citizens.Agreed! Remove this woman from the fabric of society!
Again, in this case the justice system totally failed Texas.Texas put her back in a car?
While no one can condone Mrs. Harris’ acts that July evening, the court’s decision failed us all. No more playing bumper cars with human bodies?
In this instance, a citizen with no prior offenses who had never broken the law and whose life had been turned on end by her spouse’s unrepentant infidelity, has had her life and her family further and completely torn apart by a misguided jury. "No prior offenses." You left out the part about premeditated murder. Hey, the pig probably deserved it, but you don't get to make that decision, you sociopath.
The jury didn't tear your family apart. The jury had nothing to do until you came along.
Very shocking attitudes in those quotations.
However, the sentence given in this case is slightly more respectable than the very short sentence to Mary Winkler (sp?) who shotgunned her husband, apparently in order to prevent him from finding out that she had been involved in finance scams. The local community was very supportive of her because, “she was cute, with that, and being a preacher’s wife ...” A preacher’s widow, actually, she had just killed him.
In both of these cases, accusations of sexual misconduct are made about the deceased. And as they are dead, they can’t reply.

I was just wondering if within your opinion you reviewed the reconstruction of the crime scene. It is IMPOSSIBLE for clara harris to have run over david harris, (the scum bag who left his sobbing wife and daughter on the lobby floor of the hotel where is wedding reception was held) more then one time.
The term psychopath literally means according to dictionary.com; A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.
We all know that Clara clearly had remorse. I wonder how you might feel in her situation? Yes David Harris was murdered, but HARDLY the victim.
