I’m glad that Ed Rollins sees something of the very important part that Mike Huckabee plays in the American political system — but aside from that, I don’t quite see the point of this thread.

politics1.com says the filing deadline is April 2008 with the primary being May 20. Thus far there is no Republican running against Mark Pryor.

Because he doesn’t have a job and has nothing better to do, plus, like someone else said, I think he likes to fly in chartered planes.

Interesting... I wonder if they put this out to try to get a draft Huckabee for senator movement started.

An increasingly favorable attitude toward Mike Huckabee inside the conservative movement, nurtured by his presidential campaign against Sen. John McCain, is threatened by the former Arkansas governor’s refusal to run against Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor this year. Polls show Huckabee is the only Republican with a chance to unseat first-termer Pryor.

The deadline is march 10th. On March 5th, Huckabee should seriously sit down and think this through. On March5th, he will know whether the continued run for President is futile or worthwhile. It is increasingly futile, and a more productive avenue would be for Senate. I am guessing he could get a lot of support from around the country to run for the Senate.

“A reasonable counter question is why should he be obligated to drop out as long as he is polling well, winning delegates and keeping the media focus on the Republican race whereas otherwise the news would all be focused on the Democratic slugfest?”

He can engage in a vanity run that’s going nowhere or he can engage in a viable campaign that would defeat a Democrat.

Vanity or serious attempt to defeat Democrats???

If he doesnt run for US Senate then he has zero political future imho.

I wonder if it takes a certain number of signatures - and if the Republicans would be willing to go ahead and get him those so he has a choice,

For some reason, I can’t see Huckabee in the Senate (although they could use his sense of humor.) Huckabee needs to lead something, like the GOP or a cabinet post. That’s just my opinion, of course.

“Texas is winner takes all so Huckabee must win there to win delegates.”

Texas isn’t necessarily winner-takes-all:
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1975791/posts

“Our delegate system is so fouled up (all run uncommitted but are mostly political insiders) in PA I will have to vote for the outsiders where I can find them even if they happen to support Ron Paul in my congressional district.”

That’s very smart. See post #4 at the link below.

The PA system features a large number of insider elected officials so its vital not to vote for them as delegates among the 60 or so we elect.

The remaining dozen or so will be insiders for sure like elected officials and state party leaders. They either go automatically or are selected by the state committee.

Huckabee running for the Senate is a fair idea, but he will hard-pressed against the entrenched Pryors, who have not lost an election since the summer of 1972.
