Puritans, on the other hand, found them rather “useful”, and so Jews were allowed to return to Britain under Cromwell long after they had been persecuted and driven out by Edward II, IIRC.
So called "Puritan" Cromwell persecuted Catholics instead of Jews. I don't think that makes him any more enlightened.
