From NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan AUSTIN, Texas -- In the shadow of the state capitol that provided the United States with one of the most conservative presidents in recent history, Obama last night railed against the charge that being "liberal" was a bad thing.

"Oh, he's liberal,” he said. “He's liberal. Let me tell you something. There's nothing liberal about wanting to reduce money in politics that is common sense. There's nothing liberal about wanting to make sure [our soldiers] are treated properly when they come home.”

Continuing on his riff: "There's nothing liberal about wanting to make sure that everybody has healthcare, but we are spending more on healthcare in this country than any other advanced country. We got more uninsured. There's nothing liberal about saying that doesn't make sense, and we should so something smarter with our health care system. Don't let them run that okie doke on you!"

"There's nothing liberal about wanting....

There's nothing liberal about saying....

I agree. There's nothing liberal about wanting, and there's nothing liberal about saying what you want....

When it becomes liberal is HOW he will go about paying for those wants! In his case, taxing us is how he will finance those things he wants to do!

Agreed - he is the most Liberal US Senator and that’s going some...

I am searching for the info on the measure he introduced that was passed by SEnate committee about paying for Global Antipoverty aid.....if you or anybody else know where to direct me I appreciate it.

So far searching FR is not turning up this information. ...but I know there have been several threads here about it.

No,I use another name on DU.
Really, tho, people freak out when I tell them the two politicians I must admire most in my lifetime are Barry Goldwater and George Mc Govern.I didn’t agree with many of their politics, especially the latter, but both never feared to tell the truth and stand up for their principles, right or wrong.
Am I running around waving the flag for the Barak Obama Agenda?Of course not.Who likes more taxes? Not me.Yet if we must have a liberal in power, give me Barak over Hilary every time.
