What you are missing is that the Clintons are known for their teflon and their ability to get away with just about everything under the sun. In fact, their teflon-ness and "luck" is almost otherworldly (not the word I was looking for, but hopefully the point gets across)
So yes, they are able to play dirty tricks even about things that they themselves can be accused of, because they are masters at getting away with everything. One of their specialities is doing something evil and then pinning the blame on their opponents. A scenario that wouldn't surprise me is Hillary benefiting from this, then (anonymously of course) pinning the blame on Republicans which ends up killing two birds with one stone. But even if it wasn't pinned on Republicans, she would still pull other dirty tricks in the general election, because they are capable of anything, when it comes to their quest for power.
