In fact, I would even dare suggest that the reluctant McCain supporters are far more miserable and simply resent having it pointed out to them.

I don't know that they're miserable, but I believe those that scream the loudest condemnation at anyone not supporting McCain are doing so to assuage their own guilt. They're compromising their principles, and watching others refuse to do so only highlights their own choice.
