Why are you asking questions that have been answered so many times already on various threads? McCain has already lost the election. Better to get over it and focus on the next battle: Congress.

Another BIG Bump!

It is probably time for most conservatives to quit worrying about this election. The GOP is really not interested in our backing this time. They want to win with moderates and independents to prove their point that there is no such thing as Reagan conservatism left in the world today.

Maybe they are correct, or maybe they are totally wrong, we will find out in November.

This time around? If folks want to vote for McCain, fine. For those who do not want to cast a vote for him, fine too.

The outcome remains to be seen. For me, I will stick to my own principle, even if it doesn’t please the GOP masses.

Two very simple reasons.

First the handwriting is on the wall for anyone willing to see it. McCain isn’t going to win. He’s winning primaries with around half the votes Hillary is losing with.

Second, I see no reason to vote for a losing candidate AND give the GOP a go ahead for a further leftward slide. Instead I’ll write in a conservative candidate to show what I want to see from the GOP.

Hey, that's a great way to look at it. Obama will be a much better President than McCain would be. McCain only 'talked' about Amensty, but Obama has promised the first thing he's going to do is pass the DREAM ACT and then grant amnesty to all those who are here illegally. He's got the other half of the McCain/Kennedy amnesty legislation in his ear giving him directions. Once that happens, the GOP is D.E.A.D. There will be millions of new DemonRAT voters that will prevent us from winning another election anyway, so it's the last time that we can show the GOP we're not going to put up with them any longer. Once LaRaza and MEChA get organized we will have a new Latino government from then on out. Just like what has happened in LA! Have you started learning to speak Spanish yet? I have. LOL

Free speech blackout periods within 30 days of a primary and 60 days of a general election are very clear infringements on free speech, not just “bad law”....despite whatever colorful farm phrase you wish to call it.

It’s not about “changing politics”....it’s about violating YOUR First Amendment rights to protect incombents, which you don’t seem to mind. How many other clear Constitutional rights will you not mind McCain directly violating?

Go ahead and pool your money with your neighbors and put an ad out in September mentioning a federal candidate by name and advocating for or against said candidate.....and see what happens.

I guarantee it won’t involve bird feathers or pig skins.

I find it amazing how many on here live and die by THE POLLS despite the fact that they always end up being the exact opposite when it gets down to the actual poll, the election. I wonder how many on here will be blown away by the actual results on election day just like they were at the results of the ‘06 election?

Well said. My feelings exactly.

I learned long ago you can’t make an emotional person understand logic. McCain was not my first choice but I happen to want a decent future for my children and grandchildren. What will be left after a Clinton or Obama Presidency will be totally unrecognizable, in my opinion.

I hate to tell you but the war is over, 65% of the Americans people say so, therefore it is just a matter of time, whether 12 months are 24 months.

See Post 333.

Abraham Lincoln lost battle after battle in the first half of the war but he was a great leader that eventual won the war because he LED the people and explained to them WHY Victory was important instead tallying up the percentage of the people who believed the war was lost.

Ditto for Winston Churchill.

What this contry is suffering from right now is a total lack of effective leadership and a "CAN'T DO" spirit.

Such a spineless nation cannot survive for very long.

You can be a part of that if you wish. I won't be.

Leaders lead and inspire.

Leaders do not turn tail and run when 65% of everybody else have defeated themselves.

Battle of Bull Run: ........ Bee had aimed to retire in something like order to the plateau near the Henry house, and make a stand there, in a stronger position ; but the quick eye of the soldier now told him that all was lost. No exertions which he made could restore good order; and though he rode to and fro, amid the storm of bullets, beseeching the troops by all they held dear to rally to their colors until reenforcements came, he could not reform his line. His voice was not heard, or his commands were disobeyed. All was over. ........... All at once Bee appeared, approaching at full gallop, and he and Jackson were soon face to face. The latter was cool and composed; Bee, covered with dust and sweat, with his drawn sword in his hand, his horse foaming. In the bitter despair of his heart he could only groan out, " General, they are beating us back ! " The face of Jackson betrayed no corresponding emotion. He had his " war look" on, but that was never a look of excitement. His eye glittered, and, in the curt tone habitual with him, he said coolly, " Sir, we will give them the bayonet." These words seemed to act upon Bee like the ring of a clarion. He galloped back to his men, and, pointing with his sword to Jackson, shouted, " Look! there is Jackson standing like a stone wall! Let us determine to die here, and we will conquer ! " His command was partially rallied ; the detachments took their position on the right, and Jackson's line swept steadily on toward the plateau. In a moment the whole aspect of affairs had undergone a change. The Federal forces, which were rushing forward in pursuit of the broken battalions of Bee, saw themselves suddenly confronted by 2,600 bayonets, and their advance was checked.

Bob, I know that you know better than this.

You left out the most important group:
Those that recognize that electing McCain, Hitlery, or Osama will do irreparable harm, and are doing what they can to derail McCain in hopes of somehow still getting a candidate that at worst will do no harm.

Since I cannot vote against candidates, only for a candidate, I cannot find a reason for vote for McCain.

I don’t want him in office. I am not going to help elect him.

If I could vote against candidates I would.

But votes are and affirmative statement.

I guess it is easy to have principles as long is they don’t cause problems, hardships, or cost you anything.

Principles are easy as long as they are convenient aren’t they?

“As flawed as McCain is there is no way a logical case can be made that we would be better off under Obama or Hillary (O&H).”

Haven’t read this very long thread, but my answer is that Republicans and conservatives will be better off in the long run with Hillary or Obama in the White House, and then Republicans in Congress growing a pair and fighting the Dems. loony initiatives with every means available.

Then, as in 1994, a couple of years of a Dem. President and Congress will spook many Americans and the Republicans should make substantial gains in 2010 and begin to regain their political power, enough to thwart Dem. plans afterwards, as in 1994.

Having McCain “reaching across the aisle” and taking many RINOs along, with a Dem. majority in Congress, would be the worst of all possible worlds. Except for a few issues, McCain is a liberal, and only a Republican probably because he can’t stomach the Dem’s perennial anti-military attitudes and policies.

And on judges, McCain could get no one confirmed without the prior approval of Patrick Leahy and Teddy Kennedy. No huge advantage or danger there, and the Republicans need to learn to fight unacceptable judicial nominees as ruthlessly as the Dems. Learn to Bork. Learn to filibuster nominees.

And, Republicans would fight Dem. amnesty schemes, but probably cave in to McCain amnesty schemes.

No real advantages to having the almost a Dem. McCain in the White House. Better off fighting Dems. and rebuilding the party.
