Despite the hopes of some Democratic opponents of the War on Terror wishing that the fighting would escalate in Iraq and give an excuse to retreat radical Islamofascist Muqtada al-Sadr has extended his truce in Iraq for another six months.
And my how things have changed in Iraq, judging by this AP quote:
Sheik al-Sadr has said he needs time to reorganize his militia and the announcement was widely seen as a bid to bolster his image as a major player in Iraq as Shi'ite leaders jockey for power ahead of an anticipated U.S. force reduction.
I find it interesting that the way to gain prestige in Iraq now is to present yourself as a peacemaker, someone trying to help build Iraq back into a thriving country. It seems to me that if one were expecting everything to fall apart once the surge ends, the smart strategy would be to hit one's opponents first, but Muqtada instead is continuing the truce.
One even wonders if the Mahdi Army even has the strength it used to have, or if some of its numbers have decided that the fight is not worth having anymore, and that they'd rather help build up their homeland. That would explain the need for reorganization, I believe.
In any case, this report is just another sign of transformation in Iraq, that the people are seeking order again after a distressing period of score settling. I welcome this news, as it is another step toward peace and freedom in Iraq.
Sort of puts paid to the Iraqi civil war talk. They are saving their power until Jan ‘09 when Obama says “Play Ball”.
I guess turnabout is fair play. The insurgents thought the Democrats would end the war once they took over congress.
I was glad to hear this, and wondered how anyone living so close to Dubai could not want a little piece of that action as opposed to terrorist action.
Thi Iraqi’s are finally understanding that if they want the US occupation to end, they are going to have to quit fighting each other.
My son, recently returned from his deployment says that the citizens are finally stepping up and turning in the bad guys. His job, psyops, was specifically to convince the people to cooperate using whatever means possible.
He told he a prominent shiek, in a prominant village, on his arrival stated bluntly that “IN NO WAY WOULD HE EVER COOPERATE WITH THE US, OR TURN IN ANYONE RESISTING THE US”.
After a year, just weeks before his return home, the shiek arranged a secret meeting with my sons group and gave them names, locations and other valuable information that took down a lot of bad people.
The facts are that the Iraqi people are actually seeing progress, and seeing promises kept that are convincing them that co-operation is the only way to end the senseless violence.
The DemoRats response........the sound of crickets.
Even Hillary spun the question about the surge into an attack on Bush rather than acknowledging the obvious facts.
Despite all the liberal naysayers, the US military can change things for the better.
Tubby is looking for an opening he can shove his corpulent ass through and grab power.
We need to step on this cockroach.
Now that people are having a taste of peace coupled with freedom, they want to keep it this way.
Also interesting to note is their second general election is next year. The citizens are finally grasping the concept that if they don't like their current leaders, they get a chance to elect new ones every four years.
They appear to like this. ;-)
Mookie is no fool. He knows if he tries something now we’ll come down on him hard.
So he’s just hanging out, waiting for us to leave.
Shudda killed this fat, muzzie bastard when we had the chance.
Why? Look at the Palestine and the billons of dollars those leaches get for "pimpin' peace"?
Reason:
1. He may not have many to mobilize now that most of the bad guys are running or dead.
2. If he were to try to mobilize and continue killing the civilian population (his specialty) the Iraq/ Coalition knowing who they are and where they are, will simply kill them.
He probably knows that and trying to talk tuf.
If you don't ride a camel, you ain't Shi'ite!
