Generally, I don’t like this shifting of the blame to employers. It is far too difficult, given the PC atmospherics, for employers to ascertain the status of applicants these days—they can be sued for even asking in some cases.
Anything that shifts the blame away from a government that has been negligent simply aids the cause of illegals in the end. Plus, blaming “employers” has been a nice smoke-screen defense for the Left—a place they can wriggle to and change the subject. Employers have no authority over the border or lax visa systems, weak enforcement, catch-and-release, etc. Conversely, they don’t write the EEOC rules and all the other regs they have to comply with.
Blaming employers, in a sense, is like blaming the murder victim for not having a gun to shoot back with. In the end, you find out that it was the government who took the gun away from the victim.
