If John McCain weren't such a trusting soul he would have wondered why the New York Times endorsed him -- a member of the hated Republican Party -- as their (slightly) preferred candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, especially when he knew they were preparing a slanderous, largely anonymously sourced, story bound to damage his candidacy and his reputation.

Bill Clinton made a fool of the USA, and it all was showcased to the whole world. The world laughed at us. John Kennedy was a whoremonger, both were democrats.
How dare anyone say anything about John McCain, so to the New York times, I say, so what????????????
I guess something made them fire this salvo, way before its time.
I'm further guessing that they are sitting on something huge and are waiting to drop that bomb at the last moment so there's no time to debunk it before the election.
I can't think of another reason (other than stupidity) that would cause them to publish this now.
Wouldn't it be poetic justice for John McCain--as president--to mandate serious investigations of NYSlimes secret revelations and end up putting this traitorous organization under for good?
Bingo! And to the McCainiacs I have to ask, "Just how smart is someone really who thinks the MSM is their friend??" I mean if this man really thinks they like him at the NYT, The WP, or The LAT, can you really trust him to do the right thing when it comes to national defense or the economy?
NYT - The Typhoid Mary of Journalism...
republicans....have yet to learn....trying to work with lib/dems is the same as sidling up to a rattlesnake!!!!
you will always get bitten!!!
BUT, they couldn't have done with without Senator McCain's help! When he comes to his life's close, I hope he's genuinely saddened when he realizes the damage he's done to the country.
I think it’s more akin to the diarrhea of journalism.
Maybe this will have an effect on how wrong he is much of the time. Time for McCain to reflect, and just maybe..................................
And for the last eight years he's fought tooth and nail to fruck over Conservative Republicans in the senate while peeing on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, while STILL trying to screw over Dubya and his administration at every turn.
Ergo.....
Oh well, sorry Johnny boy, oops 'Maverick'.
Go cry on some of your 'good friends' shoulders like: Lieberman, Kerry, Kennedy and Feingold. Or your 'valet' Lindsey Graham.
You deserve everything you're getting and WILL continue to get, and in spades. You asked for it, 'my friend'. /s
IMHO this is just planting seeds so that the true story of his running around on and then dumping his wheelchair-bound first wife for the wealthy and much younger Cindy will have legs in about September. We, the more informed at FreeRepublic, know about it already, but most Americans cannot even name John McCain, much less know about his fifth from the bottom at USNA, multiple plane crashes, etc. They will, soon enough.
Hopefully, McCain can demonstrate that he can maintain his dignity when under verbal attack. From reports, this will be difficult for him.
Standard operating procedure for the MSM to trump up anything they can drag out on the Republican candidate, while ignoring any issues with the Democratic candidate. It is so predictable that you can set your watch by it. Because they successfully torpedoed Bush on the DUI charge, they think it will work on any Republican candidate.
This poor attempt to knock McCain down will most likely help him and maybe open his eyes to what he is in store for now that he is the Republican candidate. The MSM will tenaciously go after his age (similar to their treatment of Bob Dole) and try to convince America that he can’t even get out of bed before it is all over.
Funny how no mention of that indicted fellow who helped out Barak, or the many lobbyist backing Hillary
