MONTGOMERY - A bill to combat illegal immigration in Alabama was introduced in the Legislature on Thursday, but even its sponsor wasn't optimistic about its chances of passage.

The "Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2008" contains some of the recommendations made by a joint interim committee on illegal immigration last summer and fall.

Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, the bill's author, had a gloomy outlook for the measure, citing opposition by the leadership in the House and Senate, and "special interest groups."

It’s too bad about AL...I had high hopes that they’d get tough on illegals. Crossing that state off my “about to get tough with illegals” list...

I thought I’d read awhile ago that either North or South Carolina were also wishy-washy on immigration. What’s in the water down there?

My representative is a Democrat. Let’s try a little filibustering of our own.

"slaughter houses", meat processing plants.

Well, that answers that. Just like the farmers and meat-packing plants around here.

Thanks.

This decision to build a Nonexistent Virtual Fence has me seeing red. Whatever happened to the fence that the Minutemen were building?

The rep should take it to the people. Bypass the legislature, if possible. There are so many illegals in the south, with demonrats controlling so many states, it may only be a matter of time before the people will have to do something, without the legislature’s consent. There are countless fed up people in the south, and things are going to get worse for the Citizens in the south, if nothing is done. btw, southerners are well armed, so when it breaks loose, it will not be a pretty sight. I expect after the next major attack on our nation, people illegally here, in the south, will start to disappear.....fair warning to the people who should be doing something, but continue to do nothing to eliminate the illegal problem. And fair warning if the legislature’s attempt to make the illegals legal. That type of policy will not fly, in the south.....mho

Our Southern legislators are as corrupt as a New Jersey Alderman. They will sell us out as fast as a Clinton would hand Nuke Secrets to Bin Laden. Americans have been asleep at the switch due to public schools and TV. When they finally wake up it won’t be pretty for anybody.

I live in Northern Illinois so don’t know the situation in that area. But I’d imagine La Raza has gained a foothold just about anywhere illegals migrate to.

You can ride anywhere in Georgia and see LA Raza stickers on the back of lots of cars. The Mexican Consulates always been an agitator here, words like racist spilling out of his glory hole mouth every time he throws himself in front of the TV camera. He has always been given free reign in the editorial section of the paper, to tell us how we can’t live without the illegal-immigrants, we have no right to control the borders, and it is just as much their state as the “native born”.

Hi bcsco!

I don’t know much about NC and SC except what I read daily at americanpatrol.com. I have SC on my “About to get tough on illegals” list and NC on my “Showing signs of wanting to toughen up” list. Right now, OK, GA, AZ, CO and MO are leading the way as the toughest states. TN, IA, MN and IN are about to get tough on illegals. UT’s idiot Governor just took a huge step backward. AL has a really tough, far-reaching bill that is said to have no chance.

You mean, the Simcox fence?? That was a boondoggle, a lot of huey. From the air, it looked like a good fence, but down on the ground, they found (the unfinished, abandoned fence) was made with beeswax and little fibers that anyone could break thru. That was when Simcox had absconded with hundreds of thousands of dollars DONATED BY PATRIOTS to get the damn thing built and it was a sham.

Thanks for the background. I think counties or townships in VA have also tried to get tough but the state as a whole is somewhat weak on immigration.

Oh, you were talking about VA??? I thought ou were referring to NC/SC...

Yes, a few counties are trying to crack down but the liberal (jerk) governor is thwarting attempts at the state level. Until he’s gone, nothing will change in VA except at the county level.
