Republican State Senator Brad Ashford turned down Dem E.D. Matt Conneally's suggestion that he run against Rep Lee Terry. Ashford is called a commie on this link.
Important Nebraska Second Amendment Bills to be Considered Friday! Ashford appears to be a gun grabbing RINO. Ashford wants to punish gun owners if their guns are stolen, but the owners didn't know it.
It sounds as though these buffoons aren’t very big fans of the Bill of Rights.
Hostile to it.
Or very bright
Let me see if I have this right. Guns were prohibited in the mall where the mass shooting (perpetrated by a CRIMINAL) took place, so therefore, a bunch of specific guns should be banned to law-abiding citizens? Even though a murderer can use any kind of gun to commit mayhem?
By-the-way, what's the current MSM definition of an "assault weapon"? If I whacked someone in the head with a pool cue or my laptop, would that count?
Come to think of it, we should ban spray paint too. No one needs this kind of rapid painting that is the choice of gang members nationwide.
Brad Trashford has been pushing for gun control in Nebraska for at least 20 years. He was dis-elected a few years ago and took some potboiler “job” at the public trough. Now, like a ghoul that won’t stay dead, he’s back. No Nebraska state senator interested in keeping his seat would consider backing this garbage legislation, and the few who do don’t represent any constituency worth mentioning.
Yeah, that’s the ticket. Ban guns and then criminals won’t shoot anyone again. They will have turned in their guns like law abiding citizens! Great plan!< / sarcasm >
You only make sense...Something seriously lacking in that committee...
Ok, so they ban a list of weapons...I know its a bad deal and none of us liked the national AWB in the first place...
It would be extremely tough and expensive to collect that which you have already...I’m not sure a lot of enforcement folks would like that job...
But then again this needs to be beaten down in the legislature with all due prejudice...
And not only the federal Bill of Rights, but the version in the state constitution as well.
The RKBA portion of that is much stronger, and more specific, than the second amendment.
All persons are by nature free and independent, and have certain inherent and inalienable rights; among these are life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the right to keep and bear arms for security or defense of self, family, home, and others, and for lawful common defense, hunting, recreational use, and all other lawful purposes, and such rights shall not be denied or infringed by the state or any subdivision thereof. To secure these rights, and the protection of property, governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
Of course it would help if the State Supreme Court would actually enforc that RKBA provision. They've had at least two chances since it was put into the Constitution by an initiative of the people in 1988. Once in '89 and once in '90. They kind of focused on the "denied" part and ignored the "infringed" part. The second case involved a ban on having machine guns, short rifles and short long guns, with an exception for those having them under the provisions of the NFA, which means of course that by the 1990 case, newly produced machine guns had been banned for around 4 years, but somehow that is not an "infringement?". The first case involved the restoration of rights to felons who had served their full sentences and had their other rights restored. Again, somehow that is not an infringement.
Of course the various laws that might be invalidated by the provision haven't made it to the State Supreme Court yet, heck it's only been 20+ years. For example the laws forbidding concealed carry (now without a permit, but that's much more recent than 1988. The requirement to have a "permit" in the form of a FOID before purchasing a handgun might be another.
Some cities are still saying they will not respect concealed carry permits. Or they were the last I heard.
Still, in Nebraska, as in other rural and rural influenced areas, this sort of bill is likely DOA.
Unbiased. Telling, no?
Interesting that “Rapid fire weapons” were mentioned. I understand that Jerry Miculek can fire 6 shots from a revolver in less than a second. Is this list going to include double action revolvers also?
Looks like we’ll be in a global hot war within the year and these guys want to make America as helpless as possible.
There will be a time for them.
Yes he can, I wouldn’t have believed it had I not seen it, in fact he does six shots in .94 seconds and puts the in a very tight group.
The video is here, I think you need to be a member to watch it, which I am, but it’s worth it.

I suggest we all email this jerk with our opinions.
His email address: bashford@leg.ne.gov
miculek is held to be the fastest shooter alive.
he’s still .12 second slower than mcgivern was. :)
and both miculek and mcgivern were not only fast.. they were accurate. 6 shots in about 1/2 second, at 15 feet the group could be covered with a half dollar.
6 rounds in under a second is gonna be a beeeeaaaach with a smoothbore musket, [obviously the only 'arms' ] protected by the Fed as well as their States Constitutions...
LFOD...
Clueless. Will they vote to ban automobiles as well? The murders in the mall could have been much worse had that same insane person used a car in the mall.
