SaM-146 Engine Runs Successfully at Sukhoi Superjet-100
New aircraft engines, SaM-146, have successfully run at the first Sukhoi Superjet-100, RIA Novosti reported Thursday with reference to a representative of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft.
New aircraft engines, SaM-146s, have been successfully started at Superjet-100 under the program of preparing a new regional jet of Russia for its first flight, said the companys representative attending the Singapore Air Show.
Earlier, SaM-146 passed the first testing stage in the flying laboratory of Il-76LL. Those tests confirmed correspondence to design specification to the extent required for the first flight. The engine also passed the race tests at Komsomolsk-on-Amur branch of Sukhoi.
Before starting the engine, they tested the power unit and auxiliary power unit and checked all key systems of the new jet, including the fuel system, hydraulic system, system of conditioning, electric system as well as the avionics and fire protection system. At the companys ground stand in Moscow, the so-called Electronic Bird, the experts checked integration of engines software with the software of other facilities of Superjet-100.

C’mon, It’s not as if the Ruskies are exactly new to the engine design game.

Nor are they new to copying somebody else’s engine. The MiG 15 in Korea flew on a copy of the Rolls Royce jet engine.
Reading the story my first thought also was wondering who they stole the tech from, US or UK companies.
Why don’t they just get Boeing 757s? I bet if they sweet-talk President Bush he’ll give them a dozen for “goodwill.”
I see they are still stealing technology. At least it then has a chance of being a good plane.
Knowing Russian “craftsmanship”, are those puddles of leaked Jet A in the foreground?
They have always had great engines. Their aircraft were so f&@kin’ HEAVY that they HAD to be good!
Good enough to get the aircraft and payload all the way to the scene of the crash!
Buy a 767 and reverse engineer?
Looks like a 737ski
Nice looking plane. Good to see the regional jet/airline market doing well. More planes in thi size class (small) show there are more flights going more places in the world all the time. I wonder whose avionics they are putting on it.

No they didn’t - They flew on actual Rolls Royce jet engine. The Brits actually gave them the engines and plans to produce more!
