MILWAUKEE -- Michelle Obama made two separate remarks in Wisconsin on Monday declaring a new pride she has felt in her country -- comments that today came under oblique attack from another would-be first lady, Cindy McCain.
At a midday event on Monday in Milwaukee, Obama said, "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback."
A few hours later in Madison, she made a similar point, although with some adjustments to her language:
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country -- not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment."
Press reports, including on this blog, initially confused the two events (my note: Probably INTENTIONALLY!)

It’s hard to find an African American who isn’t mixed race.
Obama, Harold Ford Jr, and Colin Powell come to mind first.
Jesse Jackson is fairly mixed too.
Those are the only 4 I’ve ever seen touted or that have run for national office.
I find it ironic.
Course Obama claims he’s not the black candidate which is laughable.
That is precisely why he’s getting the votes he’s getting.
Blacks voting skin and liberal whites voting guilt or looking to feel morally superior to regular bigots (whom they see everywhere).
Like many freepers do when they play the race card. Wonder how many of those will vote for Obama when no one is looking. He’s right up their alley.
Really?
How about this one?
seriously....down in the rural deep south, there are more pure African blacks than not...deep ebony or jet colored
You may be right about why people are voting for him. But in a world where demographic and psychographic identity is continually analyzed and dissected for everything from dishwashing soap to presidential candidates none of that comes as much of a surprise.
But do we REALLY care what color a person is?
He did teach community activists to plunder taxpayer dollars by taking advantage of their perceived victim status.
Has to count for something.
Oops. Fixed it.
She hasnt said one thing about the US before the year 2007 that would make her proud to be a citizen of the greatest nation in the history of mankind that has placed her amongst the most privliged of the elite in this country.
I never thought that I would see a spouse of a presidential candidate who was more of a narcissistic, arrogant, hubristic, self-entitled, and maddening solipsist than Hilary Clinton. To the nations dismay, I think we have found her.
the world sure does and the Democrast sure do.
Western whites are the only ones expected to be colorblind.
I'd be all for it but I'd have to be a sucka to fall for it yet.
