This girls mistake was thinking the police actually help anyone.....and it cost her life.
If she had tried to protect herself....then the police would have arrived....to arrest her.
Makes you wonder who the real criminals are.....
That doesn't excuse the police not responding, they should have come, but beyond that, they can't force him to stay away from her or vice versa absenct attempted murder, assault (could have jailed him for that), except by restraining order.
She should have gotten a restraining order for starters. They are worthless, especially when the person getting it keeps letting the person back in their lives, or the other person keeps forcing their way back in their life. The State of Illinois arrests any party who breaks the restraining order.
After having gotten one, yes, she should have done something to protect herself, get away from him. She was young, may not have understood the seriousness of how these things can escalate. It isn't clear if she was still living in her family home or what here. Being 17, and a minor, one might think her parents could have done something, too.
