Ex-President Bush says attacks on McCain "unfair

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."

The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.

Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.

"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

Schwarzkopf backs McCain

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 (UPI) — Retired Army Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, coalition forces commander in the 1991 Gulf War, Wednesday endorsed GOP presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

“Sen. John McCain has served our country with honor in war and in peace,” the man known as “Stormin’ Norman” said in a statement. “He has demonstrated the type of courageous leadership our country sorely needs at this time. For that reason, he has my complete support.”

Meanwhile, just days after he dropped out of the race to become Republican nominee, Rep. Hunter Duncan, R-Calif., threw his support to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, The Hill reported Wednesday.

Hunter’s presidential campaign, built around his positions on national security and immigration issues, never took off. He dropped out after the Nevada caucus Saturday.

[edit] Early life and career McGovern was born in Avon in South Dakota and lived in nearby Mitchell, having moved there at the age of six. The son of a minister, he graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. McGovern married Eleanor Stegeberg of Woonsocket on October 31, 1943. The two had met during a high school debate in which Eleanor and her sister Ila defeated McGovern and his partner. As the war approached, McGovern recalled later, he felt insecure about his own courage. A gym teacher once called him a "physical coward" for failing to vault a gymnastics horse. To prove himself, McGovern, who was afraid of heights, took flying lessons and got a pilot's license through the U.S. Government's Civilian Pilot Training Program. "Frankly, I was scared to death on that first solo flight," McGovern remembered. "But when I walked away from it, I had an enormous feeling of satisfaction that I had taken the thing off the ground and landed it without tearing the wings off."[1] He volunteered for the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and served as a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot in the Fifteenth Air Force, flying 35 missions over enemy territory from bases in North Africa and later Italy, often against heavy anti-aircraft artillery. McGovern was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for saving his crew by crash landing his damaged bomber on a small Mediterranean island. McGovern's wartime service is at the center of Stephen E. Ambrose's book The Wild Blue [2], which the author dedicated to McGovern's wife Eleanor.

From the very same link you sent to me...evidently you did not read far enough. Point is, he was considered a war hero too

I think Tiger Eye is Ted Sampley
Ted hates John McCain. It’s that simple. What does Ted do about it? check this crap out....
Ted says john McCain is a KGB spy:
Sampley Said McCain Was Brainwashed by the Vietnamese & a KGB Spy
Sampley calls McCain the Manchurian Candidate, maintaining that the Vietnamese brainwashed McCain, then sent him home to do their bidding—which, to Sampley’s way of thinking, explains why McCain was instrumental in the nation’s normalization of relations with Vietnam. [Phoenix New Times (Arizona); 3/25/99]

Anyone here think John McCain is or was a spy for the KGB? Has to be one the most ridicules things I’ve heard in a while!!
Well that’s not all of it!! Check this out...
Sampley Says McCain is Actually a KGB Spy
Ted Sampley, a veteran from North Carolina who runs a newsletter, accuses Mr McCain of betraying his country while a prisoner and being a KGB spy. He also made a more bizarre accusation: In the movie The Manchurian Candidate Laurence Harvey portrayed a former PoW from the Korean War whose brainwashing enabled his enemies to be able to manipulate his actions. To trigger him all they had to do was have him play solitaire, with the queen of diamonds being the trigger that made him theirs, body and soul. Mr Sampley went on to ask the senator: “Have the Vietnamese flipped you a queen of diamonds?” [The Independent, 2/17/00]

Is this a joke? What kind of NutBag is this Ted guy?
Well.......
Sampley Started a Fight With McCain Staffer
In December came an ugly exchange between activist Ted Sampley and an aide to Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. Mr. Sampley says he went to the senator’s Capitol Hill office Dec. 18 to drop off copies of an article he had written. It described Mr. McCain as a brainwashed agent of the Soviet KGB spy agency. McCain staff members already had seen the article. Mark Salter, the senator’s legislative assistant for foreign affairs, ordered Mr. Sampley out of the office. Although versions of the story vary somewhat, both Mr. Salter and Mr. Sampley agree that they went out in the hall together. Each says the other threw the first sucker punch, but both say there was a scuffle, and Mr. Salter got the worst of it. [Washington Times, 2/8/93]

I guess ole Ted is a badass...
But he paid a price....
Sampley Ordered to Serve Jail Time for McCain Altercation
[Sampley] spent two days in jail and was placed on probation for 180 days. He also was slapped with a restraining order requiring that he stay away from Mr. McCain and his staff. [Washington Times, 2/8/93]

So I guess we see who threw the first punch.
In chimes John McCain..
McCain Says Sampley Has a Nose for Publicity and Knack for Making Money From Invented Controversies
“Ted Sampley, whose nose for publicity and knack for making money from invented controversies is colorfully detailed by Mrs. Keating, is the author of my own chapter in the POW conspiracy, in which I am exposed as a KGB-trained Manchurian Candidate. Mrs. Keating puzzles over the perverse pride Mr. Sampley takes in his work, which included torturing the family of an American POW in Iraq with fabricated details of his cruel death at the hands of an Iraqi mob. When the pilot was subsequently freed alive, Mr. Sampley dismissed his fraud as necessary to publicize the plight of POWs. Mr. Sampley excuses all his scams as necessary to advance a noble cause. Mrs. Keating reveals that his likely real motive is more mundane: money. She notes his earnings from his T-shirt concession located near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial were nearly $2 million over three years. He keeps his overhead costs down by not paying a dime to his employees.” -John McCain [Washington Times, 12/10/94]

Thank you for your service. But you have missed the whole point. Your service no more qualifies you to be POTUS than McCain or any other war hero (Mc Govern included). It seems that is the only thing you are arguing qualifies McCain

Sorry but that dog don't hunt with real conservitives

The 2d Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile), United States Army, under the command of Colonel John H. Cushman, is an excellent, veteran unit which always displays an enthusiastic spirit of dedication to destroying the Communists.

Again, you have missed the whole point. If you are really in tune with his political service, he has done everything possible to stab fellow republicans, GWB and Conservatives in the back.

With that said, how can you trust him on his stances on Iraq, Pro Life or any thing he has to say (promise to get the CONSERVATIVE VOTE) BYW, why is it he has to try so hard to convince everyone he is a conservative? Could his past actions have any thing to so with it? Maybe you should study up on that too

Argue the merits of your candidate instead of the silly "keep the commies out" slogan. It really just shows how weak you really think McCain is and makes you look like a troll.
