My husband recently came down with chicken pox. Everyone in the family has had the disease. Most kids now are immunized from chicken pox. He evidently caught it from someone in a public place. As an adult the disease can be terrible, but he went to the doctor immediately and was given Valtrex which is used for the STD herpes. This drug shortens the duration and the severity of the disease.

Uh-huh. Well. I think you should start taking Valtrex as well. Just to shorten the severity and duration of the outbreaks "chicken pox", just in case you, too, have "caught it from someone in a public place".
Btw, according to a medical resource whom I trust, if you/he/both continue to take Valtrex every day as a prophylactic (and it's working), the chances of again passing it on to "someone in a public place" are nearly (but not quite) nil.
