You may have a point there: I can’t see the post-Roe future. There has always been do-it-yourself abortion in the sense that a woman could find a recipe for a feticide tea in a herbal formulary -— pennyroyal, black cohosh, blue cohosh, quinine -— or pickle or parboil herself in some kind of toxic bath. Read accounts of abortions in the 1920’s and ‘30’s.
Now as always, the Church must teach in all seriousness that the guilt of such a crime will burden the soul and torture the conscience here and hereafter. If we understood the spiritual world we would all abhor our sins against our begotten children and our God.
You are correct in that there has always been ways to murder the unborn, but it is only recently that it has become industrialized, efficient and open. Just imagine the possabilities with today and tomorrow’s technology combined with a desperate and publicly thwarted abortion industry. If they can help women easily murder their unborn by themselves they will do so—it’s all about the baby slaughter.
“Now as always, the Church must teach in all seriousness that the guilt of such a crime will burden the soul and torture the conscience here and hereafter. If we understood the spiritual world we would all abhor our sins against our begotten children and our God.”
Amen. The Church must teach. The new Pope seems pretty cool, and I hope things are looking up in that regard. I often wonder what would have happened if Rome would have called for a general strike by Catholics and other Christians when abortion first started to be legalized in this country, and backed it up with very public and noisy excommunications.
