Nixon, Reagan, GHWB, and GWB won by attracting disaffected Dems whose choices were too liberal. It’s the only way a Republican can win.

This is not to say that you should vote for McCain, just that your reasoning is flawed. There are conservatives who consider themselves Democrats, either because of family voting history, union membership, or peer pressure.

What would it look like if McCain is in the White House?

I would expect enough difference to make me vote for McCain.
