Suddenly, superdelegates are important
The Baltimore Sun ^ | February 17, 2008 | David Nitkin

Being a superdelegate to this year's Democratic National Convention in Denver may not be so spectacular.

In the past, the high-ranking elected officials and party officers, free to vote for whomever they wanted at the convention, were most notable for snagging invitations to the best receptions or securing prime seats on the floor.

But it now looks as if the votes of 796 superdelegates may determine whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton becomes the party's standard bearer.

The perception of a presidential nomination decided by private pledges and whispered promises "would be terrible," said Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin, the most prominent Maryland superdelegate yet to announce his choice.

"We want to avoid it, and we want to avoid the appearance," said Cardin, one of Maryland's 27 superdelegates. "That is something that would be very damaging to the democratic principles of the Democratic Party."

State Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp, a Clinton supporter and superdelegate because of her leadership position with a national Democratic treasurers association, said she finds it "difficult to believe that in the end it will be decided by the superdelegates."

Superdelegate Maria Cordone of Maryland, who represents the National Democratic Seniors Coordinating Council, said she is sticking with Clinton because of the strong support the New York senator receives from older voters. "That's where my heart is, and that is where my commitment is,"

One need only be somewhat versed in 2nd grade math to see that the superdelegates will in all likelihood decide this thing.

Just this morning on the hourly radio news it was mentioned that the primaries and caucuses are looking like they will not decide the issue. How much did Hillary!08 and Obama spend waste on their campaigns so far?

If the superdelegates throw the thing to H KKKlintler, the dem party will implode the next day. If H KKKlintler runs against John the “Maverick(TM)” McCain, the door will be wide open to a real third party candidacy.

It has been set up that way because the Democrat Party leaders know the average Democrat voter is TO STUPID to make the right choice.

And yet, they want to be called THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

It's going to be a great summer!

That was the point of the superdelegates in the first place; either settle an unsettled primary result. This angst the Democrats are displaying right now is a symptom of their inability and unwillingness to make a decision, which is a pretty good indication of how they will stand up to Al Quieda, Iran, or a 10-year-old with a supply of spitballs and a back-up straw.

When all these people actually show up in Denver for the convention, the odor from all the poopy diapers that need to be changed if an actual decision is required will fill the plains.

Many Colorado citizens will avoid Denver during the convention.

The perception of a presidential nomination decided by private pledges and whispered promises “would be terrible...”

As long as there is no perception, though, it’s a good way to pick a nominee.

The perception of a presidential nomination decided by private pledges and whispered promises “would be terrible...”

Could be why the MSM isn't reporting the buying of superdelegate votes by Clinton and Obama.

And yet, someone is too ignorant to know the difference between to and too. Sorry, but if we're going to criticize, we need to proofread our own stuff.

Translation; "the check cleared".

The position of “Super delegates” was created for this very reason — to ensure that the party remains a machine operated by the Rat equivalent of a Politburo.
