McCain to offer up a Rice Prez
U.S Elections 2008
By Nigel Nelson
Presidential wannabe John McCain is poised to ask US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be his running mate - in a bid to see off Barack Obama.
Republican McCain believes Afro-American Condi could be his secret weapon now Obama looks most likely to become Democrat candidate.
And political pundits believe a McCain-Rice ticket would be unbeatable.
Washington columnist Nicholas von Hoffman said: "She is pure political gold. The woman is tough, fast on her feet and able to give better than she gets."
Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent if they went head to head now.
The Republican is expected to win the backing of former President George Bush Snr tomorrow.
Meanwhile Obama's weakened rival for the Democrat candidacy, Hillary Clinton, is trying to appeal to middleclass and Latino voters ahead of the primaries in Wisconsin, Ohio and Texas.
I absolutely like that man! He is top notch - and would, down the line, make a much better first 'black' president - he wouldn't hand the store over to the marxists.
He's got a great family -
I've plugged him for a year - but I could take Romney too.
Romney would be the economic balance to McCain's military -
I wonder if we shouldn't realize that McC might not make it through a full term, let alone two.
Whoever we run for VP this time will likely be the next Pres. (If we win) -
Amen, brother.
I do not think so, this report is crap.
Nutso.
He won’t offer it and she wouldn’t accept it.
If Condi won’t take the veep slot, let’s ask Al Sharpton. It’s a brilliant political idea. At least 3% of black Americans will vote Republican, and we won’t have to depend on those pesky Evangelicals and Conservatives who only vote on religious and political principles and crap like that.
Janice Rogers Brown and maybe we can talk...
Ditto on Steele.
Also agree with you that whoever we pick as VP this time will likely be the next President — whether or not we win.
I just voted for her as VP on the Newsmax poll. It would be a good ticket. She’s single, I can’t see her turning it down to pursue....what? She’s brilliant, tough, and respected. She just might grab it if offered.
Careful with Steele. He endorsed the rino in MD’s 1st congressional district (who lost) and is part of that new “mainstream” (liberal) Maryland Republican group. He’s having too much fun at the NY Times cocktail parties and wants the media to like him.
Bumper sticker!
Do we know for sure that he said that about Alito? I thought maybe that was just some of that hate McCain talk.
Geography? I seriously doubt she could bring in California, or any other state for that matter.
Tough on Terror? McCain already has those voters.
Conservatism? I believe she is pro-choice. Won't help McCain here.
Gender? Those who would vote for a candidate just because there's a woman on the ticket are already committed to Hillary.
Race? Obama's got that one sewn up already, and he's only half as black as Condi.
One more reason not to vote McCain.
Bad idea. She won’t bring one extra vote to the ticket, she will drive even more voters away. If he must bring a black American aboard to counter Obama, J.C. Watts would be a good choice. Heck, give Lynn Swann a shot, he’s got as much experience as Obama at governing. lol
I hope this is just a wild rumor ... Rice has never run for public office, seems to have adopted the wishy-washy State Department line on the Middle East and will give the Democrats more opportunity to turn the election into a referendum on the Bush administration. Beyond that, choosing Rice based on her skin color looks like, and is, pure pandering. If the Republicans try to play catch-up in the diversity competition, they’ll inevitably lose.
I like Condi too. She’s a bit soft on the muslims but State is left wing. She’s being groomed for the presidency. She just has to accept the VP spot. She’s already been Natl. Security Adviser and Secretary of State and now VP. She’ll have cred. out the wazoo if she chooses to run.
“Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent?”
Typo?
Trial baloon popped.
“”Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent if they went head to head now.”” I thought all these republicans were voting for McCain cause he could win? What will they say when they see the polls where he is way behind?
