Top Clinton Adviser Says Superdelegates Will Decide Election, Obama's Victories 'Irrelevant'

Saturday , February 16, 2008

A top Hillary Clinton adviser on Saturday boldly predicted his candidate would lock down the nomination before the August convention by definitively winning over party insiders and officials known as superdelegates, claiming the number of state elections won by rival Barack Obama would be "irrelevant" to their decision.

The claims no doubt will escalate the war of words between the campaigns, as Obama continues to argue superdelegates should vote the way of their districts. But the special class of delegates, which make up about 20 percent of the total delegate haul, are not bound to vote the way of their states and districts, as pledged delegates are.

Obama leads handily in the pledged delegate count and has won more states but trails Clinton in superdelegates, making them potential and controversial deadlock-breakers if the race ends up a dead heat come convention time.

Harold Ickes, a 40-year party operative charged with winning over superdelegates for the Clinton campaign, made no apologies on Saturday for the campaign's convention strategy.

"We're going to win this nomination," Ickes said, adding that they would do so soon after the last contest on June 7 in Puerto Rico. "You're not going to see this go to the convention floor."

It provided for (Forgive me as this is not intended to be sexist in any way ... merely legal!) degenderization of the right to vote, and political standards have been set for women to serve in political office, with one caveat: that being the office of President.

How do you figure that? Amendment XIX merely talks about the right to vote, and I don't know anything else in the Constitution that restricts the office of President to males.

Wow! The Dims are going to disenfranchise blacks and alienate the base.

Really, disenfranchised the whole country. I would love it for that to happen. The ultimate outcome is that Obama wins the most primary votes but loses because of Super delegates. Hillary can not win the general election in that case, too many pissed off people who will rightly feel they have been cheated.

Would you care to explain which hat you pulled that bunny out of? To think you started that by talking about “political fantasia.” There is nothing in the Constitution restricting the gender of the President.

For some strange reason I hope they try. I haven’t seen a good blood and guts movie in years. I am anticipating the total destruction on these two Clintons. Bill will go down with her.

Very very doubtful unless the Dems have a death wish.
I don’t see upset or disappointed blacks grumbling. I see full scale violence and a complete loss of black support for decades to come.

Every day I read these articles about Clinton’s strategy to force superdelegates and take legal action to gain Florida and Michigan delegates and every day I seem to be happier than I have been in years. Every single day I wake with a smile and retire with a smile. Happy Happy Happy
I never thought I’d ever be able to watch a witch destroy herself.

He got in the senate when then Sen. Ryan had gone through a very messy divorce and some paper, the L.A. Times, sued to get public access depite both parties to the divorce requesting the docs to be sealed because of their minor children. The f*kng court said to unseal and becasue of the horrible allegations by Mrs Ryan, Mr. Ryan dropped out so that it would not further play in public in front of their children. Alan Keyes then jumped in and lost.

Over the years the Denver police have not been know for tact.
On the other hand Denver citizens are not that big on rioting.
But this is a national election so Denver is not the only city in play.

If this happens, it may finally convince blacks that the Dims are not their friends.

Nope. I wish, but nope. (I speak as a black male who 'escaped from the plantation'. (In fact, I was never on it.)

Diogenesis:
My friend, it is not only the files that she got while in the White House, just think of the files that her minion's that are still in the FBI are passing to her. They know who all of the Super Delegates are and I will bet she now has a file on each of them. (I really like your posts.)

Good evening and the very best to you and yours.

Nice map. Note ZERO riots in media-maligned Alabama & SC, and the predominance of riots in the ‘civilized’ elitist liberal-ruled areas.

More like "zero riots in heavily-armed Alabama and SC". The whites would have started shooting immediately

Believe me, I still don't buy an OBwan victory here. Unlike a lot of folks that want that outcome, I've seen too much of the krinton machine to think otherwise. My hope, however, is achieving some sort of parity before the election in terms of demoralization and defection in their base. If not, things will play out like my tagline says...

Obama will be President, it may not be 2008 election, but i think it will happen sadly

If Obama gets his butt whipped badly enough by an old codger like McCain that might be enough to take care of him for good.

He’s scary and this country is too dumbed down to see it.
Sure...you’re getting your thrills from Hillary being speared but look what you’re getting in her place.

I agree that Obama would be a terrible president but I believe he is incredibly weak as a candidate so I'm not so worried about him being the nominee.

Whatever, right now Hillary is slowly drowning and one would have to have a heart of stone not to laugh out loud about that!
