On the negative side, the promotional trailer on the Frontline website contained a bit by Josh White of the Washington Post that made me want to hurl.
On the other hand, one of the defense lawyers told me: "I wouldnt judge the program by the trailer. I know the producers of the segment have been working assiduously to ensure the program appears fair and balanced, and the evidence of their dealings with us seems to support that premise. But fair and balanced means they include views from the other side, which obviously we dont like."
Another said: "The producers have spent a lot of time conferring with me to attempt to get the facts correct, and to fairly present both sides. I had a choice - attempt to keep the piece fair, or refuse to participate and run the risk of a show that would surely be inaccurate because the producers don't know anything about military law. I chose to answer questions and keep the show as favorable as possible and still comply with the rules about discussing facts that are not in the public domain (here the Art 32 hearing). I anticipate they had to get the government's side from people like Josh White, because I doubt the prosecutors talked to them."
So there you have it. I'll put up a live thread on the 19th for people who are interested.
Speaking of live threads, there will be a segment on the Sgt Evan Vela case on Hanniity's America this Sunday, February 17. I plan to have a live thread for that as well (if you don't know about the case, search for keyword VELA.

Thanks. DVR set to record.
I know I'll certainly be watching.
Almost makes us po’ folks wanta spring for the dish network, ‘cause we’s too far out in the sticks to get PBS on antenna anymore. Semi-crazy National Guard Daughter is scheduled for her second tour of Iraq this fall, and we do wants to learn more about what really goes on “over there”.
Thanks for this post, Red and for your continuing efforts to support these Marines. Looking forward to seeing it and hope it is fair.
Thanks, Red! I’ll be looking for this!
Give it a try!
I've been on Direct TV for three or four years now. You won't be sorry. Worth it for the "Military Channel" alone -plus a bunch of other options not avail. on normal cable.
This is a facile statement, IMO.
But in all fairness, I will have to see the program to see how it all fleshes out.
BUMP
How can a few men with box cutters kill 3,000 people?
THANK YOU for alerting us to this broadcast. I will definitely be watching!
God bless our military and their families!
Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve set my DVR to record it.
Bump. Let’s hope for that touted fairness...
That line from Rath makes me worry.
I expect a story that is "balanced" propaganda, and not a story that is balanced.
How can a child in pajamas be considered a threat?
How can a person with Down’s Syndrome be a threat you traitorous piece of terrorist-loving America hating journalistic-dog-doo.
That’s obviously meant for the reporter, not you, bigheadfred.
It’s true that McGirk and Rath both started at the same place: a story about civilian casualities. But they went in very different directions after that. I’m sure the film will have things I disagree with, but I truly don’t believe Rath is a McGirk. Come on the live thread on the 19th and we’ll find out together.
I hate a lot of what I see on PBS, but I have been ok with and even enjoyed some of the Frontline pieces. The people in charge of Frontline seem to actually be rational, fairly balanced journalists.
