Worth repeating for anybody traveling in Illinois with a gun concealed on their person, Illinois does not recognize any other states concealed carry permit.
It is a felony in Illinois.
Not certain but I believe that Wisconsin is the same.
Not only do IL and WI not recognize other states permits, they have none of their own, only the only two states not to have such a system. Well, and Vermont, which respects their state's and the federal Constitutions, and does not prohibit concealed carry with no license or permit required.
But they are not the only two states who do not recognize other state's permits. Far from it. Most states with CHL systems recognize some, but not all other states permits. You have to very careful. Not only for that reason, but also because each states laws concerning where and when and other factors, such as having to present the permit when stopped by an officer, all differ.
A little better, it's a misdemeanor in Wisconsin, and thanks to a recent Supreme Court decision you can probably carry a concealed weapon on your own property. And state law prempts local measures, so a town can't ban handguns as does Chicago and a few suburbs.
Wisconsin is a legal open carry state, but I wouldn't suggest strolling down the street in most cities with a weapon, they'll cite you for disturbing the peace. So much for legal open carry.
