That’s how retired four-star General Wesley Clark begins a fundraising e-mail sent on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Clark, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2004 race, writes in his e-mail:
“McCain will not reverse the foreign policy mistakes of George Bush. He is content to leave us in Iraq, saying it’d be ‘fine by me’ if we were in Iraq for another 100 years. He is rash on using military force with Iran. He overplays the military card and doesn’t seem to appreciate that the real strength of the nation lies in our economy and in our values.”
In seeking contributions to the DSCC for this year’s Senate campaign, Clark says: “We have to be sure we have a Congress that will support a Democratic president but also one that, in the event of a John McCain presidency, has enough horsepower to ensure he can’t continue the policies of George W. Bush.

Now that is a depressing thought. I was hoping that McC would be a lot more dangerous than Bush.
Wesley Clark is the general who wanted to attack the Russians during the invasion of Kosovo.
Why do you get worked up about the troops being in Iraq for years? We are still in Germany, Japan, and Korea. We have not been at war with them but we keep large military bases there. Most of those countries would do anything to keep us there.
I’m not a military expert but I believe we will be in Iraq for years to come for strategic reasons. We need a presence there in order to fight terrorism. Maybe Saddam didn’t have WMD’s (personally I believe he did and moved them) but we know that Iran is in the process of obtaining nukes, we know that Pakistan already has em. Once Iraq settles down it will be just like being stationed in Germany.
My brother is over there in Bagdad, they have Burger King, Cinnabun, KFC, and even a coffee shop similar to Starbucks. I believe my brother and others that have been there when they say, if we leave now it will be a blood bath like we have never seen before.
I geuss that Hilary Clinton Defense Secretary job isn’t looking so good now is it Mr. Clark (i.e., Mr. Mental).
Excuse me, but this is getting too much for me to stomach. Bush is not stupid. You can’t have it both ways. He was brilliant to come up with blah blah blah but on the other hand he was too stupid to purge the Dems at State, Justice, CIA, Defense etc.
IF THESE EMPLOYEES WERE CAREER DESIGNATED AND NOT POLITICAL DESIGNATED, THEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED. EVEN IF THEY WERE ONCE POLITICAL, THEY COULD GO THROUGH A PROCESS AND BECOME CAREER. THAT’S WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN SO MANY INSTANCES.

Because we need not be there.

I believe you. Paying for your OWN defense is quite expensive.
We are still there because that government wants us there. It is far more desirable than paying for their own defense.
