To: Quiet Man Jr.

Many, not all, but many Roman Catholics I know only vote Republican because of the pro-life platform of the party. If that were dropped or the dems ran a pro-life candidate they would be only too happy to vote dem. They would like us to have universal health care and see welfare as Christian responsibilty.

i strongly agree that certain basic elements of “welfare” - helping our neighbor, general charity for jobs, education and health care, and feeding the poor ARE and ought to be strong practices of Christians

BUT, i reject the idea that it is by government fiat, robbing peter to pay paul, that Christians should empower to achieve those endeavors

its interesting that among the ‘christian’ denominations that seek socialism to mandate their benevolent interests they do least, internally, to insure none of their own will need it; while denominations that ask nothing from government nearly always at least take care of their own

which is more ‘christian’?????
