McCain aint heroic??? Flying A-10s into AA fire isnt heroic? You have to volunteer for that duty! How about turning down early release from Vnam hell-hole so the N. Vietnamese dont get a propaganda advantage against his country? Doesn'tt that count? I agree with you. But it comes down to semantics. I had this discussion with several active duty military guys who insisted that McCain's refusal to accept early release was simply his duty. It does not rise to the level of heroism. Either way, I honor and respect him for his service. But not, by the way, for anything else.

I don’t know about the hero part, but McCain put on the uniform and did his duty. He didn’t put himself in for medals for every scratch and dent he suffered and he didn’t turn on his fellow solders when he got discharged. We tend to toss around hero and superstar far too much these days, maybe it’s because so many people refuse to do anything to maintain their freedom. Show up, shut up, and do your duty is a high enough standard for me.
