DETROIT - The deadline is approaching for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to file a second appeal to keep documents from a whistle-blowers' lawsuit settlement secret.
The state Appeals Court has given him and the city until 5 p.m. Friday to appeal its ruling upholding a lower court decision to release the documents and an attorney's deposition.
If no appeal is made, documents from the $8.4 million settlement to three former officers are expected to be made public Tuesday.
The deal kept secret intimate and sexually explicit text messages involving Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty.
Each denied under oath in last summer's whistle-blowers' trial to having a physical relationship and conspiring to fire one of the officers suing the city.
I’m not sure what Molehern’s stint as MI AG has to do with the case at hand...

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Sure, we're waiting...yaaaawn
I’m betting we’ll see a 4:55PM sprint by another city attorney to beat the closing time of the clerk’s office.
If Mr. Hip-Hop is fighting this hard, there’s something REALLY offensive in the stuff he wants to keep confidential.
I'd forgotten all about the four years, 1998-2002, Comrade Granholm was AG.
Windsor gets all the 19 and 20 year olds that want to drink. Detroit gets all the gamblers that want to smoke.
He’s appealing to the MISC.

Like we couldn’t see this coming.
“Windsor gets all the 19 and 20 year olds that want to drink. Detroit gets all the gamblers that want to smoke.”
And how many of those juvies aren’t just rolling back into Detroit half in the bag?
“Im not sure what Moleherns stint as MI AG has to do with the case at hand...”
Prediction: Granholm’s latest “work” frees Kwame...again.
Zing!
“I’d forgotten all about the four years, 1998-2002, Comrade Granholm was AG.”
Not to mention!
??
Thanks for the link, Kieri. Thanks for the ping, grellis. Interesting. Kwame. Granholm. Cox. Michigan’s finest. /sarcasm
The Windsor police are quick to pull over people driving erratically, especially when they have USA plates.
The border guards at the US border are also likely to notice an impaired driver.
If you drink and drive in your home town, you have a good chance of getting home without encountering the authorities as long as you can drive somewhat competently.
You can't avoid dealing with authorities when crossing from Windsor back into Detroit.
“You can’t avoid dealing with authorities when crossing from Windsor back into Detroit.”
Times have changed.
They’ll vot him back in. Luck of the Irish.
Re post 9: Lots of them. A lot of them take the tunnel, which has pillars supporting the roof on the US side. A few years ago a partyer was hanging out the back window on the driver’s side when the driver pulled too close to said pillars. He was decapitated. True story.
“...True story.”
Also sad, however ridiculous. What’s all this about lowering the drinking age again?
