The shooter who killed five students at Northern Illinois University on Thursday was a lauded sociology student who earned the Dean's Award in 2006, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Police identified the gunman as Stephen Kazmierczak, 27. He transferred last year to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

"He had stopped taking medication and become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks," NIU Campus Police Chief Donald Grady said.

Kazmierczak had a shotgun and three handguns during the attack, police said Friday.

...

The gunman, a former vice president of NIU's Academic Criminal Justice Association, wrote about social justice on an Internet site, the paper said.

...

In a paper he helped write two years ago, he described his interests as social justice, corrections, political violence and peace, the Sun-Times said.

Hard to imagine a "social justice" freak worried about violence and wants peace goes out and murders people - a true LIBERAL when they're off their "meds". Liberals are angry hypocrites when not medicated.

Steven Kazmierczak — the suspected gunman in the Northern Illinois University shootings — was a distinguished member of the university’s Department of Sociology, earning the Dean’s Award in 2006.

He transferred last year to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where he was a grad student in social work.

Kazmierczak was a former vice president of the NIU student association’s Academic Criminal Justice Association.

The group’s Web site says its aim is to educate the DeKalb community about “all areas of the criminal justice system, especially corrections and juvenile justice.”

Ever meet a natrually happy LIBERAL?

I haven’t.

If I were a LIBERAL, I’d have ot be on meds too!

Thank God, I’m a die hard conservative and don’t need meds.

Ironincally, EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL SHOOTER has been ON MEDS or just taken off them. These “meds” aren’t working ... .

The Medical Society is worry about gun ownership to the point that they want pediatricians to ask toddlers and children if their parents are gunowners and record it in their medical records in some states. Their argument is gunownership can increase the risk to the life expectancy of the children and parents. However, all these erratic shootings involve individuals who have a long medical history of taking perscription drugs for behavior issues. I think the government needs to review the dispensation of medicine to young children for behavioral issues and its relationship to suicide, homicide/suicides and other violent acts. In other words, perscription drugs may kill more children in the longrun than blaming the ownership of guns.

“He had stopped taking medication and become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks,”

It’s going to start (the disarmament) with the encroachment on American’s rights to self-defence and “to keep and bear arms” by keeping those with “mental disabilities” from owning and using firearms! This is a dangerous precedent becuase 1) It gives unelected, some would say corrupt, and even bad science/wrong headed organizations such as the APA the right keep ordinary Americans from owning firearms. Secondly who’s to say who’s “mentally disabled” in the future- say a corrupt system some day determines conservatives (that don’t have the right mental patterns, and ‘go-along-with-the-system’) are “mentally disabled” and dont’ have the “right to keep and bear arms” becuase they could be ‘dangerous and kill people?’ Then WHAT; This is a NEW invasion of your rights!!

I agree with YOU!

They pass out these meds like crazy and it’s based on SUBJECTIVE feelings about a person. I’d hate to know how many people commit suicide on these meds.

I’m not totally surprised LIBERAL academia didn’t see him as a threat - since they’re NUTS TOO! Apparently this guy was just a tad more erratic - but you know how it is with these “caring fellow liberals” ... they do NOTHING about it. Why you need to RESPECT this erratic behavior and treat him with utmost dignity and respect - right up until he whips out the gun and shoots you in the head.

I guess he was so torn over whether to support Obama or Hillary, it put him over the edge. He wanted the change real bad and was in favor of the future, so he was pulled to Obama, but how could he overlook the decades of experience in doing something or other that Clinton brings to the table?

It was just too difficult, so he thought that by going on a murdering rampage, he could maybe get some more gun laws passed or something and help social justice and peace that way.

Bingo! You’ve hit the nail on the head, my friend. You better believe that the liberals are going to jump all over this. Gun ownership will now require mental competency as established by some “authorized” body or organization.

Horrible. It is a sign of the times. I wonder what meds he was on. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be dangerous because they can set up a patient for even more severe boughts of depression when they go off the medication or when the body down regulates serotonin production. This leaves these individuals primed for suicide and other more severe incidents.

"Social justice" is theft. This sounds to me like an angry individual to begin with, and "off his meds" raises all sorts of flags.

I had a co-worker argue passionately yesterday that allowing concealed weapons permit-holders to carry on campus was addressing a statistically insignificant problem with a statistically significant (i.e. dangerous) solution. I'm wondering how statistically significant it felt like to sit there unarmed with a maniac blazing away with a shotgun.

Yeah, it’s liberal logic at work ...

He probably wanted us to surrender to terrorists too ... tough choices for a screwed up liberal. I haven’t met a liberal that wasn’t screwed up.

You may hate to know but here it is:

http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/330/7488/373

“Fergusson et al conducted a systematic review of published randomised controlled trials comparing SSRIs with either placebo or other active treatments in patients with depression and other clinical conditions.4 They found an almost twofold increase in the odds of fatal and non-fatal suicidal attempts in users of SSRIs compared with users of placebo or other therapeutic interventions (excluding tricyclics). No increase in risk was seen, however, when only fatal suicidal attempts were compared between SSRIs and placebo. Finally, no differences were observed when overall suicide attempts were compared between users of SSRIs and tricyclic andidepressants.”

I was wondering that too ... .

Perhaps KIDS will wake up the ADULTS and have concealed weapons. If not, hope for the best as you become a target. If someone had a gun there, he’d be dead and others okay.

Instead liberals will demand that guns be ILLEGAL. They really want to believe that people like this won’t get ILLEGAL guns and murder you. Liberals are stupid.

My neighbor tried out an anti depressant. She told me that “suicide” kept coming into her mind. She had to FIGHT it off. Luckily she read the packaging and saw the warning on it and knew it was the DRUG tempting her.

She decided to throw the stuff out and just talk about her problems rather than mask them with chemical. Now she’s back to normal. I really chastised her for taking that crap.

I believe that as of 2004, when i did my thesis on Ritalin, most people on ritalin end up having to take anti-depressants and hard-core psychotropic drugs to counteract all the side-effects of the Ritalin and anti-depressants. Then these kids end up with mental illnesses brought on by the medication and the idea that taking a pill makes problems go away. Now we have studies saying that the biggest type of drug abuse by youngsters in America is prescription drug abuse. I wonder why.
Also, children under the age of 18 aren’t medically cleared to take Prozac because of a greater incidence of “suicidal ideation.” And ritalin also causes heart defects and makes kids under the age of 10 die of heart attacks.
