SMITHVILLE, Tenn. State Rep. Rob Briley of Nashville has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and property damage prior to leading authorities on a high-speed chase last September.
Briley, who has already been sentenced to 10 days in jail on separate charges of drunken driving, waived his right to a trial by jury Thursday morning in DeKalb County.
Authorities said he struck the rear of a truck and then left the scene. No one was injured. Prosecutors dropped charges of following too closely and non immediate notification of an accident.
Police records show Briley was arrested about 15 minutes later in neighboring Wilson County on charges of driving under the influence, evading arrest and violation of the implied consent law.
Briley stepped down from his chairmanship of the House Judiciary Committee following his arrest, but has remained in the House.

Is he related to the late Judge Beverly Briley, for whom the parkway was named?
Dunno - but that Briley Parkway is a great shortcut (when sober).
Beverly was Metro's 1st Mayor, too.
I don’t need to click the link. I know that omission of party means the suspect is a dem.
You can be damn sure if he is a Repub the paper would have gone out of their way to point that out.
On rare occasions I've seen the Dem reference buried in paragraph 9.
Your point is well-taken, however; if he were a Republican, that would be pointed out in the headline.
By calling him State Rep. instead of State Representative, it is apparent that they want the uninformed to think that he is a Republican! < /cynicism >
HA!!
Ain't it the truth.
...wayyyyy beyond ridiculous.
If he had been the South Carolina Chief Justice he would have been totally forgiven.
If he was a republican it would have said, Ultraconservative Right Wing Republican State Rep. so and so.
Usually in the headline.
